There are a lot of indie retro platformers out there. Typically, these try and copy the looks of NES games and run with the tough-as-nails gameplay those games were famous for. Sometimes, though, a developer goes the other way with it. Rex: Another Island isn’t like other retro platformers. It’s really short and simple but carries a lot with it that many don’t. Visually and audibly, while I mentioned that most games try and copy NES games, Rex: Another Island focuses on looking and sounding like a ZX Spectrum game....

At first glance, Cloudpunk seems like many of the futuristic, cyberpunk titles released in the last few years, but a closer look at the reveal trailer shows off a game that looks like something special. Players take on the role of Rania on her first night as an employee of Cloudpunk, working to deliver packages across the massive city of Nivalis. Watching the trailer sparks feelings of nostalgia because Cloudpunk does not only look right at home in the cyberpunk genre, its art style, buildings, vehicle, and atmosphere all look to have heavy inspiration from the Bladerunner series....

With all the excitement and controversy surrounding the release of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet this past week, it’s easy to forget that there was indeed another Pokemon game that came out earlier this year. Pokemon Legends: Arceus was generally pretty well-received and praised for finally doing something different with the series, but it was also criticized for its poor graphics and bland open-world. Hindsight is 20/20, but with Scarlet and Violet releasing with way more pressing graphical issues and bugs, Arceus almost looks like a masterpiece in comparison....

RPG fans who chipped in to back Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire can now take part in the Backer Beta which has just gone live. This special test version of the game does not include the real companions because they are still being worked on and some have now even been cast yet. The main goal of this beta is to start testing and break the systems so Obsidian can improve and add features to the game....

Recently appointed PlatinumGames CEO Atsushi Inaba has been speaking on the future of the Japanese studio. Inaba has been speaking to Japanese publication Famitsu (translated by Video Games Chronicle) in an interview. Specifically, he’d refer to the mysterious Project G.G. in particular, but remained coy as to exactly what it is. “Project G.G. is still in the stage of testing various things, so I can’t tell you much about it, but when it comes to future game production, we want to focus on creating games that are different from the past....

Rapper, actor, and entrepreneur Snoop Dogg will soon be a playable character across Call of Duty: Warzone, Vanguard, and Mobile starting next month. In an announcement from the Call of Duty blog, Snoop Dogg will first become playable in Season 3 of Call of Duty: Mobile starting on April 1 through the Lucky Draw, a lottery system that requires COD points to participate. The Snoop Dogg Operator for Call of Duty: Mobile is dressed head-to-toe in a gold embroidered outfit and “includes a new signature weapon based on a fast-firing Legendary SMG that’s gold-plated and diamond-encrusted....

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds clearly has no chill, as sales for the sales juggernaut have now passed seven million. It’s also leapfrogged Counter-Strike: GO in the last 24-hours for most concurrent players with over 600,000 users playing the game at the same time. That’s just outrageous. According to figures taken from SteamSpy, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has surpassed seven million copies sold on PC and it’s currently at 7,013,248. Concurrent player numbers have also increased, passing 600,000+ as of yesterday, which has taken PUBG above Counter-Strike: GO in today’s daily player counts, if only for a matter of hours....

The PlayStation 5 is set to release in 2020 and fans are already hyping themselves up. It’s assumed that the actual reveal event for Sony’s new hardware will take place during the first couple of months of the new year where they’re expected to also reveal some new games. Rumors have been circulating for years now about the PlayStation 5 with some of them being backed by leakers with strong credibility....

Sony has revealed the media apps that will be available on the PlayStation 5 when it launches in November, with a number of high profile streaming services supported from the get-go. Netflix, Disney+, YouTube, Spotify, Twitch and Apple TV will all be available day and date as soon as the console releases, with media getting its own dedicated space on the PlayStation UI as detailed in last week’s reveal. You also won’t be downloading these apps through the PlayStation Store anymore, instead with them all being obtained through the Media space....

PlayStation State of Play returns with its latest showcase on March 9th, 2022. We can expect “first looks and updates” on PS4 and PS5 titles as part of the online presentation, with a “special focus” on Japanese publishers. The eighth expansion for Prison Architect, known as Undead, is on its way to PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4, just in time for Halloween. Upon its 11th October release, this expansion will bring a whole new element to your gameplay: Survival against some heinous zombies. “Just in time for spooky season, Undead adds a mix of survival and horror to Prison Architect that will put Wardens’ management skills to the test,” said game director Gaz Wright....

Not For Broadcast, the satirical propaganda sim that puts you in the hot seat of a broadcasting company, has just revealed that its much-anticipated Episode 2 is on the way. Developer NotGames and publisher tinyBuild have just announced the next media manipulating episode is scheduled for release near the end of January 2021.
