Learning a new language is a daunting task as an adult. Our brains become so fixed into patterns and routines that it’s hard to introduce something as complex as language to someone over 20. Your brain seemingly loses patience with figuring out the nuance of language and wants nothing to do with it. How do you solve this problem? One quick search on the Apple App or Google Play Stores will see a bunch of different apps and games that all boast to teach you a new language in basically no time at all....

This review contains no spoilers. We’re not in Gotham anymore. Instead, this is Pennyworth, a modish Batman (or Batman-adjacent) prequel series on Epix about Bruce Wayne’s faithful manservant/sidekick/surrogate father Alfred, set in London’s swinging ’60s when he was a young man and not quite a butler. The show, developed by the creative team behind Fox’s Gotham, Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon (who also directed the pilot), focuses on the adventures of Alfred, or “Alfie,” and includes Bruce’s dad, Thomas Wayne....

The cast and crew of Matt Reeves’ The Batman will descend on Glasgow next month, as it stands in for Gotham City during DC and Warner Bros.’ latest big screen reboot for the Caped Crusader, and there’s much to get hyped about. Star Robert Pattinson, who is vaulting off a string of standout performances in indie darlings like The Lighthouse and Good Time, is stepping into Bruce Wayne’s privileged shoes to play the Dark Knight this time around, and he’ll be surrounded by a fantastic bank of actors posing as Batman’s various friends and foes....

Super Street Fighter IV’s producer, Yoshinori Ono, has opened the bag on why Super Street Fighter IV didn’t show up on PC: pirates. Well, pirates have always been good at ruining a day. Sure, they may not be pillaging your village anymore, but they sure do manage to cause trouble. Instead of sailing the seven seas, pirates have moved on to the lucrative ocean that is the internet, and stealing is still their most enjoyed pastime....

PlayStation Plus, Sony’s premium online service, has launched. PlayStation Plus is available at two price points, $17.99 for three months and $49.99 for a full year. Currently, full year subscribers receive an additional three months free. PlayStation Plus requires the PS3 system software 3.40 update. PlayStation is reportedly set to close the PlayStation Stores on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita and PSP by this summer, it’s been claimed. The reports come from The Gamer, who claim “sources familiar with the situation” say that the PS3 and PSP stores will be closed down on July 2 and the PS Vita store will follow suit on August 27. Following those dates, owners of those consoles will no longer be able to buy games or DLC from the PlayStation Store with an announcement for the closure expected at the end of this month....

In a scheme that can only be matched by Team Star in its levels of nefariousness, players have found an exploit in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet that lets you skip the game’s first quest. The intended sequence of the game would see you play through The First Day of School quest, which would then unlock all the other storylines in the game. However, players have found a way to skip the latter section of the quest, allowing you to cut out the tedium of meeting your new classmates and teachers and get straight into exploring the open-world of Paldea....

Valve has announced it’s bringing both of its seminal first-person puzzler games to Nintendo Switch in the Portal: Companion Collection. The collection will include both 2007’s Portal and its 2011 sequel in one package. If, for some reason, you’re not familiar, you’ll be playing as Chell. She wakes up in the mysterious Aperture Laboratories, with only a portal gun and the voice of sinister robotic AI supercomputer, GLaDOS. Cue a series of ‘test chamber’ puzzles where you’ll have to use portals to traverse and avoid turrets and more....

There are a lot of forms of creativity out there, and they will often pick up their own stereotypes and cliches. Comic books are no different. While comic books and the characters within can bring a lot of excitement out of people, they are also known for creating storylines that seem to twist and turn around each other, never letting the reader fully grasp onto them before they run off in a different direction....

Nintendo Switch was the best-selling video game console in the US for January 2019, the NPD Group has revealed. The hybrid console managed to fend off both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, despite the fact Switch didn’t get Kingdom Hearts 3 or Resident Evil 2 – two of the biggest releases of the year so far. Ninty announced recently that the Switch has sold over 32 million units worldwide since its launch in March 2017....

Rumors claimed that Sony was set to reveal its PlayStation 5 console at CES 2020. Instead the company showed off the PS5 logo, and while that has gotten most of the attention, there was another reveal at CES 2020 that has somewhat flown under the radar. Sony also confirmed some of the PS5’s hardware features that those who purchase the next-generation console will have to look forward to later this year....

The PSPgo hasn’t been what Sony expected. From the steep price point ($249.99) to the requirement to download all games leaving current PSP gamers’ UMDs worthless, the portable console has had its fair share of negative word-of-mouth. In my opinion, it made no sense, whether you owned a PSP or not, to pay that much for the PSPgo when you could either buy the PSP-3000 or pay an extra $50 and spring for a PS3....

Rainbow Six Siege’s latest expansion pack – Operation Skull Rain – will release on PS4, Xbox One and PC next Tuesday, August 2, Ubisoft has announced. As with previous expansions, Operation Skull Rain DLC contains two new operators – Caveira and Capitao – and one new map, set in a Brazilian favela, all of which will be available to unlock for free. The operators will be available exclusively to Season Pass holders for 7 days, after which they can be unlocked by spending in-game currency Renown....

Ubisoft has announced that the final season of Year 7 for Rainbow Six Siege will land on December 6, and will be the game’s biggest season yet. Entitled Operation Solar Raid, not only will bring about the regular new map and operator, but also a whole swarm of improvements to the game’s functionality, including crossplay and cross progression. The Fire Emblem franchise possesses a storied legacy full to the brim with iconic characters and archetypes. Few of these character archetypes are as crucial as each game’s “lord,” the main character whom the narrative of a given entry is often centered around. However, not every lord in the series is as powerful as their status in the story may suggest. Though a fan favorite in the Super Smash Bros. community, Roy is not nearly as capable in the game in which he originates, often being considered more of a hinderance than an asset....

One avid Nintendo fan has finally completed their North American 3DS collection thanks to a recent purchase of Barbie Groom and Glam Pups. However, this acquisition certainly didn’t come cheap. User Galduis shared their find on reddit, delighting in the fact they “got the last 3DS game that [they were] missing for the NA full set!” Galduis revealed in the comments this purchase set them back $1600, “plus shipping to Brazil....

PlayStation has announced the return of its Play at Home scheme for the second year, and will offer a free copy of 2016’s excellent Ratchet and Clank reboot on PlayStation 4 for free to keep for all users next week. The scheme, which is set to last four months from March 2 at 4am GMT until the end of June (as per the PlayStation Blog), promises free games and entertainment for the next four months, and will start with the free copy of Ratchet and Clank to download through the PlayStation Store alongside an exclusive extended 90 day access to anime app Funimation in the countries where the app is available....

The much maligned OUYA console hasn’t been much of a going concern for some time, but it seems next month it’s finally being buried for good, as current owner Razer has announced it’s shuttering the service that powers the box next month. Razer says that any games that people may still have on their box, presuming they still have one, should still work providing they don’t require a purchase validation, but it’s down to individual developers....
