Around midnight on October 18, 21 year old Cayla Campos was shot and killed while playing Pokemon GO at a park in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She and her boyfriend were sitting in their car playing the game when they witnessed a robbery. Campos and her boyfriend attempted to leave the area, but the robbery suspects shot at their vehicle. Cayla was tragically shot in the head and then crashed her car into a house....

Ubisoft Montreal has just released the first gameplay video of the upcoming Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands and, well, it looks interesting to say the least. A mix between developers interviews and gameplay snippets, the new video shows off many of the acrobatic skills that played such a prominent part in making The Sands of Time the huge success that it was. Sad news for Western fans of Professor Layton and the Ni No Kuni series, as reports are coming in that development studio Level-5 is ceasing their North American operations. The news was first reported by GamesIndustry.biz who said the company had begun winding down their operations in the middle of last year, with employees let go from both its International America and Abby spin-off studios—and had been operating “with a skeleton crew” since August 2019....
Today the NPD shared its monthly figures about the US video game market by way of executive director Mat Piscatella. According to the data, overall consumer spending for the month of October was essentially flat year-on-year. Specifically, digital sales for console and PC game content grew driven mostly by Call od Duty: Modern Warfare 2, while mobile and hardware were down. PS5 was the best-selling hardware in the US in November both for dollar sales and unit sales, while Xbox Series X|S ranked second across both metrics....
Gamers looking for the next generation of consoles to offer a major graphical leap in technology may be in for disappointment, according to one developer that will work with the consoles. While the hardware inside both the PS5 and Xbox Series X offer a lot for creators to be excited about, they also apparently want to temper expectations when it comes to visuals. Speaking with GamingBolt, Grimorio of Games’ Víctor Pedreño doesn’t believe that the new consoles will do much to improve the games that his studio makes....
Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 is off to a roaring start, tasking players to be the last man, or squad, standing in Al-Mazrah. The other new mode, the Escape from Tarkov-inspired DMZ, tasks players with partaking in missions in a PvEvP setting. As you may have experienced, both modes feature looting mechanics, and the looting controls are flaky since looting and reloading are mapped to the same button, at least on a controller....

Because it wouldn’t be a Microsoft conference without PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, we got a short teaser for some new PUBG content. Specifically, we have an update on the Sanhok map (the smaller, punchier map that ramps up the all v. all action faster), which has been in testing for a while. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has now flogged more than 50 million copies worldwide, developer PUBG Corp.’s Ryan Rigney has confirmed in a Steam post. The battle royale title, known for its winner winner, chicken dinner victory blurb, has also notched up a few other impressive milestones, including 400 million registered players and 87 million daily players. The numbers include the PC, Xbox One, and mobile versions of the every-man-for-himself shooter. To celebrate the news, the company revealed that PUBG is getting a 33% discount on Steam from June 19 – July 3, meaning you can pick it up for just $19....
Ubisoft has unveiled Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Mobile, an upcoming free-to-play tactical first-person shooter mobile game from the Rainbow Six franchise. In this new game, players will be pitted against each other in 5v5 matches, or “Attack vs Defence”. As the name suggests, attackers will have to gain intel on their enemy by deploying drones and breaching “walls, floors and ceilings”. Meanwhile, those on the defence team will have to ensure their intel is secure with the use of spy cameras and traps....
Rockstar Games has added Halloween masks to Red Dead Online to celebrate the spooky season, with exclusive looks for each Specialist Role and for Outlaw Pass holders (via Game Rant). In September, Red Dead Online players were finding what looked like zombie NPCs in the game, with discoloured skin, glowing eyes, and bedraggled garb. This was theorised to be Rockstar Games hinting at an Undead Nightmare event for the massively multiplayer Wild West sim, but that turned out not to be the case....
Red Dead Online is finally set to receive an update after fans became so upset by a lack of progress that they began dressing as clowns in protest. According to Rockstar, this upcoming Red Dead Online update will include a new Outlaw Pass as well as a new Frontier Pursuit. The details on both those updates are somewhat scarce at the moment, but it was noted that the Outlaw Pass will include “tons of community-requested features and fixes, and much more to play and discover in the months to come....
THE DAY Online was Reloaded Studios MOBA/arena brawler which only launched into Early Access last month and today they have announced they closing all North American and European servers. THE DAY Online was a weird mix of MOBA and arena brawler and it really wasn’t quite sure what it was trying to be as I found out when I previewed it last month during the open beta. It’s not surprising the game has been pulled but it is surprising that it’s happened so soon after entering Early Access as a free to play game....

Milestone’s new motorcycle racer RIDE has suffered a one-week delay, PQube has confirmed. The game will now release on PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC on March 27, having previously been due one week earlier on March 20. While a reason for the delay has yet to be confirmed, PQube says that Milestone’s game sees the developer back “doing what they do best”, developing a new IP that sees players racing a range of superbikes across a variety of city, country and historic circuits....
Riot has admitted to censoring League of Legends characters in certain countries, in the wake of releasing its first gay Black hero. K’Sante is the latest champion to be added to the game, which had its Worlds 2022 tournament this weekend featuring a performance from rapper Lil Nas X. Yet the game’s executive producer has admitted the developer would replace certain words such as “lover” and “partner” in countries with poor LGBT+ rights....
Four stages and over twenty weeks of gaming later, the Overwatch League 2019 regular season has come to an end. For eight of the twenty teams, their year of competing has finished. But for the six teams above them in the standings, they have one more ride to pin their hopes on to make it into the season playoffs: the play-in tournament. Coming into Stage 4, the final stage of the season, only two of the teams had been knocked out of the playoffs - Washington Justice and Florida Mayhem....
