The 2019 Rainbow Six Siege tournament is well underway right now in Raleigh, North Carolina, where it is expected that some people attending the eSports event will be cosplaying characters from the game. As a precaution, the Raleigh Police Department has issued a memo to nearby residents notifying them of the possibility of seeing people dressed in realistic military uniforms and carrying fake weapons. The police department explained that the email was sent purely as a precaution to residents, and it included a photo attached of cosplayers from previous Rainbow Six Siege events....

The developer behind PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has revealed it will be giving map selection the boot in a future update. This might come as a surprise seeing as how the feature was only added quite recently, and allowed players to select which map they wanted to throw into their queue. Given that PUBG only has two maps right now, it was a choice between Erangel and Miramar. Of course, Miramar didn’t prove all that popular with players, so the map selection feature was something of a blessing....
Razer is suspending its Paid to Play program indefinitely. Last March, Razer introduced a novel rewards program that gave players cash for playing games. Well, not really cash, more like gift cards that they could only spend on Razer products. It was a marketing gimmick that essentially bribed players to use Razer’s Cortex software to play their games. CrossfireX’s single-player campaign will be integrated into the game’s Premium Battle Pass, as announced in yesterday’s Xbox Games Showcase. Developer Smilegate Entertainment brought Remedy on board for its “signature approach to storytelling,” and the new trailer certainly looks stylish. Operation Spectre explores the background of the Black List/Global Risk conflict, while introducing players to prominent characters in CrossfireX. Set in “larger than life” locations in Asia and South America, Remedy’s campaign will add a different dimension to one of the most successful games of all time....
DiRT Rally’s chief game designer Paul Coleman has said that he is “delighted” with the response the game has received so far, despite the uncertainty involved in releasing the title in Early Access. “This last week has been incredibly exciting,” Coleman said in a post on the game’s website. “The positive response DiRT Rally has received has been amazing and we are delighted that you have appreciated the direction we have taken....
Apparently, 12 years wasn’t enough for Richard Linklater with Boyhood, so his next massive project will span two decades of filming. While projects this long in cinema are not completely unheard of, it certainly isn’t the norm. This long project is based on the musical Merrily We Roll Along and is planning on using these large spans of years to more accurately show the aging of the characters in the film over time....
Former BioWare animator Jonathan Cooper went to Twitter yesterday with 10 fun facts on the original Mass Effect in celebration of the title’s 10th anniversary. One of them was Andy Millman-related. There’s some really interesting little notes in here like how the team came across a breakthrough in facial animation after creating former U.S. president George W. Bush in the game. As well as that, he told some fun stories about the mo-cap process, and how BioWare tried to get around the ‘dead stare’ of characters....
Earlier this week, Riot Games’ Head of Esports Alberto Guerrero discussed the ways that the LEC had managed to become the dominant competition in terms of viewership. The LEC is kicking off its second season, following an extremely successful start in 2019. According to LOL Esports, viewership increased significantly during the events maiden season, over 800,000 con-current viewers during the 2019 Summer Finals which was an increase of 65% from the prior year....
On October 15th, Riot Games live-streamed a lengthy and substantial series of announcements in celebration of the 10th anniversary of their flagship title, League of Legends. A portion of the stream discussing a mobile port of Teamfight Tactics, Riot’s first official non-LoL property, included a not-so-subtle jab at Blizzard, as Riot’s representative for TFT stated that, “it turns out, you guys actually do have phones.” Anyone who remembers last year’s BlizzCon likely already knows the context, but for those who don’t, one of Blizzard’s “major” announcements during last year’s event was a mobile Diablo game titled Diablo Immortal....
Blizzard’s team-based shooter Overwatch is coming to PS4 and Xbox One in addition to PC, a splash page advert seen on Blizzard’s Battle.net has revealed. Overwatch Origins Edition will launch before June 21, 2016, according to the advert which has now been removed. The pricing for the game is still to be revealed.
