PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is finally going to add the ability to select a map before getting stuck into the action, developer PUBG Corp. has confirmed. Fans of the every-man-for-himself shooter have been pretty vocal about this feature for some time, particulary as the Miramar map hasn’t exactly gone down well with some folk. However, the game’s developer has shared concerns that implementing this option may result in issues for player population, despite never actuall ruling it out entirely....

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart developer Insomniac Games has revealed its currently working on a mysterious multiplayer project, posting job listings for various roles at the studio. The developer announced on Twitter it’s looking for a Creative Director, Systems Designer (Multiplayer), Story Lead, Art Director and VFX Artist on its next title. Understandably, there’s little in the way of further information and at the time of writing we don’t know if it’ll be a new IP or one of its existing games....

Redeemer, a top-down, close quarters, brutal action game from independent Russian developer Sobaka Studio, will launch for Steam and GOG this spring, Gambitious Digital Entertainment has announced. Gambitious is majority owned by Devolver Digital and some of their most successful independent developer partners. “Redeemer’s single-player story follows a former elite operative whose violent past finally catches up with him after years of living in hiding within a remote mountain monastery. Punch, kick, hammer, hack, smash and shoot through hordes of enemies on a merciless mission for justice against the shadowy corporate forces you once worked for,” reads the game blurb....

If you are looking for a game that oozes fast-paced, ridiculously high-flying action with all sorts of rockets, look no further than Rocket Arena. The gameplay footage makes the game look like the love child of Bionic Commando and the rocket jumping soldier from Team Fortress 2. Nexon America, in partnership with developer Final Strike Games, is bringing its new first-person multiplayer shooter to closed beta on PC from May 23 until May 29....

Oakland University has partnered with North American esports organization Renegades to bring varsity esports to the highest collegiate level. The school has announced its plans to add an esports team to its athletics department. Oakland is Michigan’s first Division 1 school to formally announce the addition of a varsity esports team. Renegades is a professional esports organization based at GameTime, a gaming center in Auburn Hills, Michigan. They currently sponsor teams competing professionally in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Fortnite, and Rocket League, among other titles....

The short-lived remake of Konami’s ill-fated PT is no more, according to a post on Game Jolt by Qimsar, the project’s sole developer. It’s hardly surprising, given the game industry’s long history of canceling fan projects and unofficial remakes. But in Qimsar’s case, being forced to abandon work on a PT remake isn’t all bad. In fact, it might have earned the 17-year-old developer an internship. “I have some really good news and really bad news,” Qimsar wrote the Game Jolt post....

Pepsi is going to be putting an ad into space that will defend gamers in Russia. Probably. In Russia, there’s a company called StartRocket.
