Overwatch, the futuristic team shooter, recorded more than 9.7 million players during its open beta – a new record for Blizzard. The open beta was available on PS4, Xbox One and PC, with players logging more than 4.9 billion minutes across more than 37 million matches. “We’re thrilled that such an incredible number of players from around the globe got a chance to check out Overwatch during the Open Beta,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment....

Paladins: Champions of the Realm is the latest game to unveil a battle royale mode, and have actually called theirs Battlegrounds. Go hard or go home, I suppose. Paladins is a free-to-play hero shooter, so Hi-Rez studios is touting this as the first ever hero-shooter battle royale. They should be careful, though, because when Fortnite unveiled its own Fortnite: Battle Royale the VP for Bluehole, the company that published PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, came out of the gate threatening ‘further action’....

Grinding Gear Games are cranking out fixes and additional features for their ARPG Path of Exile at great speed, and a new patch is about to land in the next 24 hours. Along with all the regular fixes and content additions, GGG will be releasing their in-game support for live streaming to Twitch. Players will now be able to stream directly from the game client and also chat in real-time with viewers from within the game....

Kalypso Media’s next title, The First Templar, was playable at this year’s PAX East on both PC and Xbox 360. The game had some interesting features for a hack-n-slash with RPG elements, along with some aspects to make the title its own. For those who haven’t heard of this title yet, the game takes place during the Crusades as you take the role of two Knights Templar on a quest for the Holy Grail....

Piglins are a race of Pig Humanoids that have made their homes in the hellish depths of the Nether Dimension in Minecraft. They were introduced in the 1.16 Update which revamped the whole Nether Dimension from a bland knockoff of Hell to a more horrifying place. With them also came a new mechanic to Minecraft, Bartering. Bartering is a similar concept as the Trading mechanic with the Villagers in the Overworld....

One gamer got so frustrated with hacking in Splatoon 2 that they decided to send a message to Nintendo…by hacking Splatoon 2. The player in question manipulated certain stats to get an unnatural boost on the game’s leaderboards. By doing this, they were able to shoot directly to the top with four different accounts. Once there, the four accounts spelled out a message when lined up on the leaderboard: “Please Add Anti Cheat....

PlayStation owners are reporting issues connecting to servers in Elden Ring, Grand Theft Auto, Call of Duty Vanguard and other games. The issue follows the release this morning of Sony’s new PlayStation 5 system software update. Elden Ring fans are being greeted by an error message which states that Sony’s servers “could not verify PlayStation Plus subscription”. Initially, Elden Ring fans believed the game’s own maintenance - also planned for this morning - was solely at fault....

PlayStation 4’s lifecycle won’t be cut short as a result of the new high-end PlayStation Neo, Sony’s head of worldwide studios Shuhei Yoshida has said. “PS4 is PS4,” Yoshida said, when asked by German website Gameswelt.TV whether the new console would shorten the traditional 5-6 year cycle. “[The] new high-end PS4 is still PS4, so the lifecycle is not going to be shorter.” PS4 launched alongside Xbox One in late 2013, with rumours pointing to a release later this year for the new high-end PlayStation Neo....

Niantic has announced new features that are in development for Pokémon Go that adapt the game for the coronavirus crisis (via Polygon). Preventative measures like physical distancing and quarantines are in place in many countries across the world to slow the spread of the virus. Pokémon Go is a game that uses the device’s location and asks its players to explore their surroundings for wild Pokémon and items like Poké Balls, Berries, and Potions....

The Sword & Shield base set for the Pokémon Trading Card Game may have just released earlier this month, but we’re already getting our first look at the next set. The official Pokémon website revealed the name of the next expansion today: Sword and Sheild: Rebel Clash. There is still a lot we don’t know about the new set, but based on the official update and the previous and upcoming Japanese sets, there is a lot of information we can gather about what to expect when Sword & Shield: Rebel Clash releases this May....

Fans are stepping up to offer support to Twitch streamer Dellor after his recent sanction from Twitch, which he received for breaking a keyboard on his head. The stunt, which he has previously done on more than one occasion, has sparked a ban which Dellor stated is permanent. This removal of his channel, which came on the same day Dellor was due to get his sub button back after a 6 month hiatus, appears to have sparked a strong reaction in the former Overwatch pro, which has fans worried for his safety....

The Dragon Ball series by Akira Toriyama features a wide variety of characters. Most of the Z-fighters are humanoids and look like any other person on the street. Only a few of the characters might stand out, like Krillin with his shaved head and short stature or Bulma with her striking blue hair. Though Piccolo is one of the few Z-Fighters that stands out on his own, the other characters don’t shine on their own until they transform into Super Saiyan mode....

In Red Dead Redemption 2, Arthur Morgan will be able to tame and ride giant pigs, courtesy of modder JulioNIB (via PC Gamer). The mod is officially titled “Pig Rider,” so WYSIWYG. However, you are able to clamber up on lorge mountain lions and wolves, too. Bears are another available steed, though those are big already, so there’s no need for JulioNB to beef ‘em up. It’s in development at the moment, but those who pledge at least $5 to the modder’s Patreon page will get to go for a spin before the mod is released properly....
