Except for the occasional glimpse into what’s going on back at Morty’s house, usually to fire off a joke or two at Jerry’s expense, it feels like the grounded, sitcom half of Rick and Morty has been all but abandoned in favor of going hard on the sci-fi rigmarole....
Square Enix has announced the next round of DLC coming to open world shooter Just Cause 4, and it seems this time Solis has developed a bit of a bug problem. Entitled Los Demonios, the DLC sees a demonic parasitic invasion unleashed across the island, causing ‘demonic hordes, pulsing tendrils and spore-filled clouds’ to spread across the open world of the game. Naturally, it’s up to Rico to battle this infestation with his trusty tools, to which will be added a Demon Crossbow and a Demon Egg Drop as the featured upgrades, with more stuff promised....

You spend a lot of your time in Roadwarden tracing the footsteps of the previous roadwarden - a man named Asterion sent, like you, into a swampy, forested peninsula to safeguard the paths against beasts and the elements, tend to a handful of villages, and assess the region’s resources on behalf of a merchant guild back in the big city. Asterion haunts the peninsula much like the protagonist’s identity in Disco Elysium - a game with which Roadwarden has much in common, for all its Robin Hobb-esque historical fantasy backdrop....
Overwatch 2 will launch into early access next week with plenty of new features to experience. After a long development period, the game replacing the original Overwatch entirely and introducing potentially unwelcome changes, such as a shift to a battle pass progression system and a move to 5v5 multiplayer matches. The latest change could be for the better for all players, but it isn’t without its downsides. Developer Blizzard has announced that hero shooter Overwatch is to get cross-play support in the near future. Keller also noted that cross-progression won’t be available when the feature goes live, but is “something that the Overwatch team is excited to work on in the future”. To celebrate, all players who login to Overwatch before the end of 2021 will get a free Golden Lootbox too. No exact date was given for the launch of cross-play on Overwatch, but it’s expected on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC soon....
The developer behind Oxenfree Night School Studio has announced last night that it’s been acquired by streaming giant Netflix. An open letter from the studio’s founder Sean Krankel broke the news. “Night School wants to stretch our narrative and design aspirations across distinctive, original games with heart,” they said. “Netflix gives film, TV, and now game makers an unprecedented canvas to create and deliver excellent entertainment to millions of people. Our explorations in narrative gameplay and Netflix’s track record of supporting diverse storytellers was such a natural pairing....
Epic continues to tweak their MOBA Paragon with the release of the v44.3 patch update which has just gone live. Paragon players will now have to get used to a couple of changes to the lanes, minions have been rebuilt from scratch, and there’s a whole host of hero changes. The left lane (off-lane) has now been renamed to the Solo Lane but that depends on where the Prime Guardian is located....

Indie publisher Panic has announced that it has sold all 20,000 of its initial batch of Playdate consoles in just 17 minutes since opening pre-orders over the weekend. As spotted by GamesIndustry.biz, this means that all consoles earmarked for launch later this year have been sold. Subsequent orders following that and going forward are expected to arrive in 2022. The number of units made for next year will be adjusted according to demand....
It sounds like obtaining a PlayStation 5 console may get a little easier soon, as Sony has claimed it has managed to secure enough hardware components to sell 12 million more consoles during its next fiscal year. Pokémon Go developer Niantic has reportedly fire 85 to 90 members of its staff and cancelled four of its in-development projects - including a previously announced Transformers game and a collaboration with theatre company Punchdrunk - amid “economic turmoil” for the company. That’s according to Bloomberg, which has shared portions of an email sent to Niantic staff by the company’s chief executive officer John Hanke. In the message, Hanke is said to have blamed today’s project cancellations and redundancies - which will affect around 8% of Niantic’s workforce - on the company facing “a time of economic turmoil”....
