Developer Jupiter has unveiled an eighth mainline instalment for its mighty Picross puzzle series on Switch, its big new addition being multiplayer support for up to four player when it launches next week. Furthermore, multiplayer and touchscreen support are reportedly being added to all previous Switch instalments at the same time. Picross S8, as this newest entry is known, follows the same familiar formula as its predecessors - each stage requiring players to complete a picture on a grid by solving numerical clues indicating which squares must be filled in - but adds a bit of spice to proceedings by letting four players put their heads together to tackle each challenge....

In an update on the PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Steam Community page, Brendan ‘PlayerUnknown’ Greene has announced that the game’s full release has been pushed back from the original six month time frame and will now not be fully launched until the end of 2017, surely impacting the planned Xbox One release of the title. Whilst this news may disappoint some players of the smash-hit game, it’s not surprising news. Greene is at pains to point out that if the game were to release within the original six month time frame, it ‘could hinder us from delivering a fully featured game and/or lead to disappointment within the community’....

Sony is finally getting ready to add Variable Refresh Rate support for PS5 - which will arrive “in the coming months”. There’s no clearer word on when exactly that might be and, of course, existing PS5 games will still need an update to natively support VRR. However, an option will be available to apply VRR to unsupported games, though Sony has cautioned that this may not work perfectly, and you may decide to toggle this off....

So we officially learned a lot about the PlayStation 5 today. Sony has announced that eight Yakuza games are coming to its subscription service, PlayStation Plus, this year. This is, of course, excellent news. The first is Yakuza: Like A Dragon, which is a very good video game. Then, the rest will come pouring in. Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2 will make their way onto the Extra and Premium tiers of PlayStation Plus. Also, Yakuza 6: The Song of Life is on its way....

PlayStation Studios is continuing its run of acquisitions this week, announcing it has acquired Dutch studio Nixxes Software. The announcement of the deal says that the studio, who are mostly known for porting work, will “join PlayStation Studios Technology, Creative & Services Group to provide high quality in-house technical and development capabilities for PlayStation Studios.” Nixxes Software are mostly known for their porting work, having provided PC ports for several Square Enix games including Marvel’s Avengers, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and the most recent Tomb Raider trilogy....

HM02 has become even more redundant in Pokémon Sword & Shield, as a new glitch has been discovered that allows players to ride their bicycles in the air. Pokémon Red & Blue were notorious for their bugs and glitches, to the point where it was possible to create artificial Pokémon like MissingNo by breaking the programming of the game. Game Freak got their act together for the later games in the series and they were vastly improved in regards to quality control....

Today is Sports Day day in Japan, a national vacation commemorating the opening of the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, and Pokemon is celebrating. The Pokemon Company released one of its ultra-cute music video titled “Ike! Gambaring Oendan” which translates as “Go! PUBG patch 13.1 will go live on August 4 and it’s adding some more new features to Taego, doing some landscaping on Sanhok, rebalancing some weapons, and a whole lot more. Since the release of Taego, Krafton has been making a lot of the right moves with its battle royale. And the patch notes for update 13.1 look like another good one for PUBG. ELSPA has announced that with less than a week to go before the Christmas Number One video game is announced, Modern Warfare 2 remains the odds-on favourite for the crown. Of the following pack it’s Assassin’s Creed II, FIFA 10, Wii Sports Resort and New Super Mario Bros. Wii with the shortest odds. “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been a phenomenal success since its launch in November; and will certainly be a popular gift for adult audiences this Christmas as it is rated 18,” said Michael Rawlinson, Director General of ELSPA, the UK video games trade body....
