Halo: Reach‘s PC launch was met with a mixed reaction. While it was great to see the franchise return to PC, a number of issues with options to matchmaking made for a less-than-ideal debut. Sony has announced updates to the PlayStation 4’s party system that are in the works in a future system update on its blog. The PlayStation Blog post notes that, as part of the changes, party sizes on the console will increase from a maximum of 8 players to 16 players. Furthermore, improvements to audio quality in voice chat are promised, as well as ‘improved network connectivity’. These updates are heading to the PlayStation Preview Program first, and sign-ups are being opened up soon....

The PlayStation 5 isn’t the only next-gen gaming hardware that Sony’s working on, it seems. Wednesday morning a new patent registered by Sony came to light. The patent is for a new version of controllers that are strikingly similar to other companies’ virtual reality controllers. As such, they’re likely for the PlayStation VR headset or for its rumored follow-up hardware, the PS VR 2. The new controllers notably feature technology for tracking hand and finger movement....

Remember Resident Evil Re:Verse? Capcom’s multiplayer spin-off from Resident Evil Village has resurfaced via a new European PEGI ratings board listing. Officially, we’ve heard nothing about Re:Verse now for nearly a year, since its second delay last July. Once intended to arrive alondside Village in May 2021, it now holds a vague “2022” release date. However, a new PEGI rating for a Stadia version of the game popped up over the weekend, suggesting Capcom was back prepping the game for launch (thanks, Gematsu)....

UK retailers have mixed opinions on the Nintendo Switch launch price of £279, with some believing it to be too high for the hybrid system to succeed. “The price point is a little higher than expected, although I don’t see this affecting sales on launch. Further down the line this will need to come down if they are to attract the masses,” Robert Lindsay, the managing director of Scottish indie chain Games Centre, told MCV....

Eevi Korhonen, the senior narrative designer on Returnal, has said that the writing the game was a “tightrope walk.” In an interview with VGC (the full version of which has yet to be published), Korhonen spoke about the process: “It was a tightrope walk. My boss Greg Louden, the narrative director, and I tried to ensure that both sides were included. So I was more ‘let’s make it more mysterious, let’s let the player puzzle it out with the community while Greg was kind of like ‘Okay, but we have to make sure that they understand some of this story....
