Electronic Arts has announced that one of its top executives, Patrick Söderlund, is leaving the publishing giant in the next couple of months. Söderlund formed an integral part of the company’s management team in his years with EA, holding the title of Executive Vice President of EA Worldwide Studios and, most recently, Chief Design Officer. He played a key role in pushing the vision for the Frostbite engine, which has since become a cornerstone in EA’s technology strategy....

It’s always a nice change of pace when first-person games are about things other than shooting. Phantom Abyss, a new asynchronous multiplayer platformer courtesy of publisher Devolver Digital, is set to launch in Early Access this June. It’s Thursday, which means it’s time for another free Epic Games Store title. This week, the digital storefront is listing Pine for free until May 13. This action adventure takes place in a world where a human tribe must survive several other species and come out on top of the food chain. As always, Epic Games also provided a preview of next week’s title — The Lion’s Song. According to the free listing, Pine takes place in “the beautiful world of Albamare,” where a tribe member named Hue must use wits and trading skills to “fight his way through a vibrant world filled with creatures much smarter than humans....

Microsoft has revealed that sci-fi strategy romp Halo Wars and its sequel are both going free-to-play this weekend as part of Xbox One’s Free Play Days event. The offer is open to Xbox Live Gold members and will be available until Sunday at 11.59pm PST. In addition to being able to take Halo Wars for a spin without spending a penny, Microsoft is also discounting both games on the Xbox Games Store by a massive 50%....

The PlayStation 5’s internal cooling fan will be optimised through online updates, Sony has confirmed. The information comes in the wake of the next-gen console’s recent hardware takedown in the form of a follow-up interview with Japanese outlet 4Gamer.net (and translated by ResetEra user orzkare and Eurogamer) Sony’s VP of Mechanical Design of their hardware design division Yasuhiro Ootori who was speaking on the ability to adjust the APU (Accelerated Processing Unit) that controls the speed and functionality of the chip that controls the fan via software updates....

PlayStation Plus members can now cast their vote in the March “Vote to Play”, deciding if Action Henk, Assault Android Cactus or Broforce will be included in next month’s free games line-up. Action Henk is a bum sliding platformer, which you can read up on here, Assault Android Cactus is described as “an award-winning twin stick shooter whose frenetic gameplay is perfect for the couch co-op experience,” while Broforce is an “action adventure game that brings to life your memories (or imaginations for the younger set) of ’80s action heroes and their adventures”....

Reservations to visit London’s Pokémon Center pop-up store are now open. The store will be running alongside the Pokémon World Championships, which is being held at ExCeL London from 17th to 21st August. Anyone wishing to visit the store can now reserve themselves a timeslot via the appointment manager. The last time a physical Pokémon Center was in the UK was in 2019 at Shepherd’s Bush. If that experience was anything to go by, booking a reservation for the upcoming store is highly recommended....

Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem may have just come out last week, but it’s already got some pretty impressive mods. Wolcen is off to a bit of a rough start. The game has just a 61% user review score on Steam, with most users reporting poor PC optimization, overloaded servers, and some game-breaking bugs. Despite this, the game is immensely popular. SteamCharts already reports concurrent player counts of over 120,000, making Wolcen the most popular new ARPG to hit Steam since Path of Exile....

Mass Effect 2 has been released for PS3 and has been received with welcome arms of the Sony gaming community. The problem, though, lies in a few issues the title has been having with the hardware, specifically save game corruption and freezing. Just a few days ago, Sony unveiled a ton of new information concerning the upcoming next-gen PS5 console. This included the official Holiday 2020 window, as well as the details on the PS5 controller. Sony has finally rolled out the ability to auto-upload screenshots and videos from the PlayStation 5 to the PlayStation mobile app for the rest of the world. Eurogamer can confirm that the feature has been enabled for PS5 users in the UK who have updated to the latest system software released yesterday.
