Sony has today launched new system updates for the aging PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita, apparently in a bid to enhance their security. Two-factor authentication is now required when signing-in, and certain account features have been disabled (thanks, PushSquare). It is now no longer possible to create a new PlayStation account on either console, for example, instead leaving this to Sony’s more secure website accessible via PC or mobile. With these updates installed, PS3 now sits at firmware version 4....

The big new gimmick in Pokémon X and Y was, well amongst converting the entire game into 3D and whatnot, Mega Evolution. This aspect of the game saw both old and new Pokémon getting a brand new evolution, one that was temporary, as they reverted back to their original form after battles ended. Sony’s State of Play showcased new footage from the upcoming game Project EVE by Hyung-tae Kim’s studio hiftUp and revealed the final title of the game is Stellar Blade. This PS5 console exclusive is a 3rd person action-adventure game filled with grotesque monsters and an attractive female protagonist named Eve, who wields a powerful sword and gun. Sony’s revamped PS Plus subscription service launches in Asia this week and new details are already emerging. It’s been revealed that various visual options for PS1 games will be available, including multiple resolutions (native, 4:3 for 16:9, and stretched) as well as three filters: default, retro classic, and modern. Retro classic is essentially a CRT filter, meaning it’s replicating the visuals of old TVs for that vintage feel. As part of this year’s Xbox Games Showcase 2020, Double Fine revealed some more details about Psychonauts 2. The popular 2005 platformer’s sequel was first announced last year but details since have been sparse. That is until now. Most notably, we now know that none other than Jack Black will be responsible for composing at least some of the game’s music. Jack Black is arguably best known for his contributions to comedy rock band Tenacious D, but he has also played several roles in various movies....

In the interest of full disclosure, I need to say that I love the Punch Line anime. When this game was first announced, I was extremely excited to get more. But that excitement immediately led to disappointment. No way would they bring a visual novel based off an anime that flew under the radar to the West, right? Well, to my pleasant surprise, it turns out that they would. When it launched late last year, two-and-a-half years after its Japanese release, the PC version was listed as launching alongside its console counterparts....

Quantum Break did not have the most auspicious of PC launches. Previously known as Madame La Perle, Doyle left her past life behind and is on the run for a number of train and stagecoach robberies along with her gang. There’s nothing wrong with a puzzle game being focused around putting boxes on switches. The act of doing so is a cornerstone of the video games industry that has endured for decades. Resident Evil 7’s ‘Beginning Hour’ demo has broken records in North America by becoming the most-downloaded single-player demo on PS4 in its first week of release, Capcom has announced. The demo has been downloaded over 2 million times worldwide since launching on June 13, despite it only being available to PS Plus subscribers. It isn’t yet known whether the demo will become available to non-PS Plus subscribers at a later date or arrive on other platforms....

Riot Games unveiled its Project L that pits the League of Legends champions against each other in a new fighting game (via Polygon). In Riot Games livestream celebrating 10 years of its incredibly successful MOBA League of Legends, it revealed that the rumoured fighting game is no longer a pie in the sky.
