Xbox head Phil Spencer has been outlining Xbox’s plans to make gaming a safer, more welcoming place overnight as part of Microsoft’s recent push into actively combatting growing toxic behaviour online and in gaming. Posting an extensive post on the Microsoft blog, Spencer spoke of what he believes are two universal truths in gaming, saying that ‘Gaming is for everyone. No one group “owns” gaming.’ He continues by stating ‘If you imagine gamers as predominantly men and specifically teen boys, think again....

Chinese factory workers seem to be receiving their Christmas bonuses late this year. First there was the “hamburglered” 3DS hardware, and now new photos of Sony’s PlayStation Phone have appeared, complete with Xperia branding. The photos appear to reveal that this particular phone is running on Android 2.3 technology, and also display a model number of R800i, which has been associated with earlier Zeus models. UPDATE 12/1/23: Last night’s announcement that Sayonara Wild Hearts would be part of the PlayStation Plus game catalogue was a mistake, Sony has now said. “Sayonara Wild Hearts was incorrectly announced as part of January Game Catalog lineup for PlayStation Plus,” the company wrote in an update to its blog post. No reason was given for the error. The rest of the month’s upcoming game line-up remains as is, including Back 4 Blood, Devil May Cry 5 and Life is Strange....

Eugene “Pobelter” Park will be returning to Counter Logic Gaming as the starting mid laner, replacing Lee “Crown” Min-ho. Pobelter last played for CLG over four years ago, when they won the 2015 League of Legends Championship Series(LCS) Summer Split and competed on the Worlds stage. Since then, Pobelter has found plenty of success while jumping around from team to team. While playing with Immortals, Pobelter and his team finished 1st in the 2016 LCS Spring Split with a 17-1 record, the best in LCS history to date, before losing to Team Solo Mid in the semi finals....

PS4 will have a global install base of 80 million units by 2019, compared to 57 million for Xbox One, research firm Strategy Analytics has estimated in its Connected Home Devices Report, as reported by GamesIndustry. As reported by GamesIndustry, the firm says that the PS4 is “on path to reproduce the success of the PlayStation 2 and Nintendo Wii”. PlayStation Plus Vote to Play, the new system from Sony that allows PS4 members to vote for their next free PlayStation Plus game, will get underway at 4:30pm this Thursday, August 14, Sony has announced. PS Plus members will be able to vote from a selection of three games – Armello, Grow Home and Zombie Vikings – with the winner available for free from September 1. The two runners-up will also be available at a discounted price on PlayStation Store....

Fifteen days have now passed since Sony took the PlayStation Network offline. Last Sunday, Sony issued a press release indicating that some PSN and Qriocity services would be back online this week. Brendan Greene – better known as PlayerUnknown – has announced that he is stepping away from the development team of the game that bears his name: PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. In a statement picked up by Eurogamer and later posted to Twitter, Greene revealed that he will leave the development team he’s been leading for the past five years to head up a new ‘PUBG Special Projects’ division for PUBG Corp, the subsidary of Bluehole formed to oversee development of the game....

The idyllic, peaceful city builder Townscaper will make its way to VR in October. From 6th October, the game will be available on Meta Quest VR and PICO headsets. The promised PS4 Pro update for high octane shooter Resogun has been released by Housemarque. A tweet from PlayStation Europe announced the availability of the update: “Take on the challenge of Resogun with 4K HDR support, higher resolution & improved graphical quality with the #PS4Pro update, available now,” reads the tweet. It’s not currently know what resolution the game actually runs at, or if super sampling is offered to 1080p Pro gamers....
