Pokémon Sword and Shield introduced a new mechanic called Dynamaxing. Early on in the storyline, a wishing star falls to the trainer while visiting the Professor. Being a proper British host, she invites everyone inside for supper while she fashions it into something she calls a “Dynamax Band”. This band harnesses a curious sort of energy that is accumulated in various hot zones throughout Galar. The Dynamax band enables trainers to channel this energy, causing their pokémon to take on gigantic forms, some changing their appearances altogether....

Pokémon Sword & Shield will go down in gaming history. Not only for all the sweeping changes to the mainline Pokémon formula but for the infamous National Dex controversy. GameFreak’s Junichi Masuda announced earlier this year that there will not be a National Dex in the upcoming sequel. Unfortunately, that means many players’ favorite Pokémon will not make the cut into the next mainline entry of the Pokémon saga. Pokémon Sword and Shield’s first competitive tournament kicks off soon, and players vouch for a strange Pokémon who deals devastating physical damage (via Comicbook.com). On their travels round the Galar region, players will pick up Fossils that they will give to a scientist along Route 6. She’ll combine a compatible set of two Fossils to create creatures from another time. Pokémon Sword players have a higher rate of finding Bird and Dino Fossils, whereas Pokémon Shield players are more likely to stumble across Drake and Fish Fossils....

Pokemon GO players have been racing from one event to the next thanks to the weeklong extended celebration of Pokemon Day and things aren’t slowing down as we head into the weekend. Tomorrow marks the Party Hat Gengar and Nidorino Raid Day, which means players will be out taking advantage of a few free Raid Passes while they hunt down Party Hat Pokemon with a shiny chance. The Gengar/Nidorino theme for the Pokemon GO Raid Day may seem a little strange since neither Pokemon is particularly relevant to the metagame in Pokemon GO, but it’s actually a throwback reference to the opening screen of Pokemon Red, Firered/Leafgreen....

We have zero reasons to assume that a new Portal game is happening, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t notable people talking about it. Recently, Portal 2 writer Erik Wolpaw spoke on the Kiwi Talkz podcast about the possibility of a third game in Valve’s iconic puzzle-platformer. Towards the end of the podcast, Wolpaw states: “We’ve gotta start Portal 3. That’s my message to whoever.” The main reason that Wolpaw wants another Portal game is that he is aware of his age....

Koei Tecmo has announced it’s remastering 2014 horror title Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water for modern consoles and PC later this year. The game puts you in the shoes of Yuri Kozukata, a girl cursed with the ability to see the supernatural. Venturing out to Mt Hikami on the trail of several missing people, she soon stumbles upon the series’ infamous Camera Obscura that takes pictures of restless spirits. It’s up to Yuri and friends Ren Hojo and Miu Hinaski to explore the mountain with only the camera and a flashlight to protect them against the vengeful ghosts....

A European retailer may have just leaked the PS5 price. There have been several rumors about the PS5’s pricing as fans wonder just how much money they’ll have to spend to get Sony’s powerful new console when it releases in holiday 2020. A Slovakian retailer named Progamingshop has the PS5 price listed as 499 Euros, or $557. The retailer doesn’t allow shoppers to place PS5 pre-orders, like one other European retailer, but they can click the “I’m interested” button which allows them to provide their name, email address, and phone number so that Progamingshop can send them a message when pre-orders open....

The developer of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds PUBG Corp has revealed the first footage of the previously announced visual updates to PUBG’s oldest map. In a blog post, the developer has shown off some of the improvements and tweaks that have been made to the Erangel map, and revealed that the new version of the map will go live on the PC test servers from today, June 6, along with some tweaks to the Blue Zone....

Social media has been on fire with chatter about a new Red Dead game ever since Rockstar posted an image of a red logo on Sunday lunchtime. Things became clearer when a second teaser followed 24 hours later, and publishers have been rushing to get in on the Red Dead hype. So far we’ve seen parodies from Capcom, Square Enix, Curve Digital and more. Expect to see another Red Dead teaser at 2pm BST today....

Contrary to, at one point, being interested in creating a sequel for their Aliens vs Predator title, Rebellion Studios has now stated they have no interest in creating a sequel to the franchise reboot at the moment. The slightly above average game was released last year - and contrary to the “critical success” Rebellion claimed, the title hit shelves to lukewarm reviews and lackluster sales. One of the contributing factors behind Rebellion’s decision is Gearbox Studios’ own Aliens game currently en route, Aliens: Colonial Marines....

Bethesda has has announced that Redfall, its upcoming vampire shooter, is now coming out in the first half of 2023. The company has also said that Starfield, a spacefaring R.P.G. from Bethesda Game Softworks, will also now be released next year. In a statement released to Twitter, Bethesda said: “We’ve made the decision to delay the launches of Redfall and Starfield to the first half of 2023. The teams at Arkane Austin (Redfall) and Bethesda Game Studios (Starfield) have incredible ambitions for their games, and we want to ensure that you receive the best, most polished versions of them....

Returnal‘s first post-launch patch has had to have been removed and itself patched following the discovery of a nasty bug that appeared to be corrupting players’ saves. Patch 1.3.3. was released as promised yesterday evening and was intended to resolve issues with certain trophies not unlocking, stability fixes and more.
