Paramount has secured the rights to produce a new TV series based on EA’s Battlefield series.
The show will be executively produced by Rendition/Spotlight producer Michael Sugar and Anonymous Content’s Ashley Zalta – the production company behind hit TV shows True Detective and Mr. Robot.
There’s currently no word on which network the show will be broadcast, when shooting will begin, or which time period it will be set in, although Paramount seems excited to be able to tap into the franchise’s 60m fanbase.
“EA’s Battlefield has an incredibly dynamic narrative, coupled with a loyal fan base, which will allow us to bring this exciting and unique property to the small screen,” said Paramount TV president Amy Powell. “We look forward to working with EA and Anonymous Content and thank Michael Sugar for his tenacity in bringing us this exciting project.”
“Battlefield has a tremendous built-in, engaged fan base, making it a highly coveted piece of IP primed for long-form adaptation,” added Sugar. “Together with EA and Paramount TV, we’ll develop the Battlefield TV series with the same commitment to robust storytelling that has made the game such a runaway success for nearly fifteen years.”
EA seems equally excited, too. “Battlefield is one of the most loved properties among our players,” added EA’s EVP Patrick Söderlund. “We are thrilled that Anonymous Content and Paramount TV will look to introduce fans to Battlefield through a new medium.”
Battlefield isn’t the only war game set to be adapted for TV, of course. Last year, Activision revealed plans to develop films and TV shows based on its line-up of games, including Call of Duty.
The latest Battlefield game, Battlefield 1, launches on PS4, Xbox One and PC on October 21.
