Whether you love them or hate them, there are tons of characters to develop relationships within Persona 5. Every party member and confidant has a relationship meter that can be filled through interactions during your free time. Spending time with each character will let you unlock more of their story and gain access to better personas.

There are some relationships, though, that aren’t that fun to delve into. Below we have listed the relationships you need to pursue in and the ones that just aren’t that great. Keep reading below to see if your favorite pairing made our list or not.

10 Love: Joker & Tae Takemi

Tae Takemi is one of the first confidants you meet, and out of the adult romances, the least strange. Joker goes to Tae’s practice to get medicine for the team and agrees to become her guinea pig for new medicines. To win her heart, Joker helps to clear Tae’s name in the medical community and even helps her learn the true fate of the patient she believed she had killed.

Tae worries for Jokers’ safety and is very warm to him, often referring to him as her “little guinea pig.”

9 Hate: Joker & Haru Togo

Haru and Joker are a couple who just don’t seem to fit together romantically. Even her quest has more to do with her attitude towards her company then with getting to know Joker. Haru seems like she would be more about business than pursuing a relationship during this point in her life, especially since she is getting out of an arranged marriage already.

We just don’t think these two have a very compelling romance; even there friendship is taking a lot of time to develop fully.

8 Love: Joker & Makoto Nijima

Makato is probably the most likely character on the list to put Joker in his place. She is a strong-willed girl who at school comes off as very strict. The truth is that Makato still wants to be treated like a normal girl, and Joker can do just that in there quests. Throughout her questline, Makoto opens her heart to Joker to vent to him about her father’s death and how she feels lonely.

Joker is able to comfort her through this growing closer to her, which naturally develops into a romantic relationship.

7 Hate: Joker & Ichiko Ohya

Ohya is a little bit more than sketchy when she meets Joker. Although she is great for finding out media related info, we aren’t quite sure she is the girlfriend material Joker hopes her to be. Ohya can often be found getting drunk in Shibuya every night after work. For much of her story, she is more obsessed with reporting half-truths in exchange for fame.

Ohya has a very strange relationship with Joker, and many times it even feels like she is just using him, which is not a healthy set-up for any kind of relationship.

6 Love: Joker & Futaba Sakura

Futaba has had very little social interaction outside of the Phantom Thieves. Because of this, she starts to cling to Joker in order to slowly gain her own independence. To help with this, Joker eventually takes her shopping in Akihabara, where the pair can choose to walk around together.

As Joker is the only persona outside of her friend Kana to try and get close to her, it’s natural that she would start to fall for him. Their relationship is also portrayed as gentle and in its early stages, making it a more believable romance.

5 Hate: Joker & Ann Takamaki

Tae Takemi and Joker feels like the classic high school set-up. The two meet during the first heist and work together during every palace raid in the series. Weirdly enough, there doesn’t seem to be any natural chemistry between the two. Even when their romance event takes place, it feels a bit stiff in comparison to other relationships on the list.

In all honesty, it seems like Ann would end up falling for Ryuji or Yusuke before falling in love with Joker. There is also the fact that poor Morgana is very obviously smitten with Ann.

4 Love: Joker & Hifumi Togo

Joker can meet Hifumi in a church where she is always playing Shogi or thinking about Shogi strategies. Joker can decide to play games with Hifumi, who will eventually open up about her dream to become a professional player like her dad. Sadly, Joker soon learns her mother has been rigging the matches in Hifumi’s favor in order to amass more fame using her daughter.

Joker takes it upon himself to target Hifumi’s mother so that the young girl can fulfill her dream properly. Afterward, he even admits to Hifumi that is a phantom thief, further proving how much they trust each other.

3 Hate: Joker & Sadayo Kawakami

Sadayo is the third adult relationship on our list and is just a bit weird for our tastes. The relationships starts when the boys call a maid service, and Sadayo shows up. While Sadayo isn’t a bad confidant, she just doesn’t seem like the type to become close friends or enter into a romantic relationship with Joker.

In fact, most of her story revolves around a pupil who she lost and felt personally responsible for. We can’t see her getting any closer to a student than being a good role-model.

2 Love: Joker & Yusuke

One of the fan-favorite and most questionable bromances in the game is that of Yusuke and Joker. Upon rescuing Yusuke, he will quickly grow attached to Joker and ask for his help in the arts. This leads them to even go on a couples boat ride in one of the paddle boat. This is, of course, embarrassing to Joker as Yusuke is completely oblivious to the implications.

Other aspects of there relationships are Joker posing for Yusuke to give him inspiration. Even though their relationship is mostly comical, they are one of the funniest routes in the game.

1 Hate: Joker & Ryuji Sakamoto

Ryuji is the most quick-tempered member of the Phantom Thieves who is obsessed with Track. In fact, his whole storyline is mostly revolved around helping the school’s track team. While some sports fans may find enjoyment in this questline, for the most part, it’s pretty boring to watch. His gift to Joker for maxing the relationships is even none other than a sports watch.

We aren’t saying that Ryuji and Joker can’t be good friends, but the dull storylines make this one of our least favorite relationships to delve into.
