Persona 5 Royal has received a snapshot of the new Memento mechanic, which is a unique exploration feature coming to the refashioned rendition of Persona 5 (via DualShockers).

Persona 5 Royal is kind of like all the bells, whistles, and sprinkles on top have been added to the original game. There will be a range of new features and extras, including new locations and hangouts, new battle mechanics and Personas, and a new party member and Confidant. Today, Atlus has shown off a snippet of gameplay exploring the new Memento mechanic which will envelop a level in total darkness.

Persona 5 Royal will release on October 31 for Japan, and in 2020 for the U.S. and the UK.  

This will be a random event and hidden in the shadows are rare, towering, and powerful enemies. To move past them, certain missions will require a direct and conventional combat approach, and other missions will need the Phantom Thieves to convince a monster to leave them alone by choosing the correct dialogue options. Morgana also explains that the Mementos level is the fusion of the party’s psyches, and may suddenly collapse and transform at any moment.
