The official Japanese Fire Emblem Twitter account has revealed new details regarding Three Houses’ upcoming DLC, including how the side story can be accessed, which characters will be recruitable, who from the main story will be playable, and when the story will take place.

Last Thursday, Nintendo dropped a trailer for the brand new “Cindered Shadows” DLC, a side story that takes the students of the Officers Academy below the depths of Garreg Mach and into the Abyss, a secluded underground area home to the secret “fourth house” comprised of people who have been shunned from the “surface world.” The new house, called the Ashen Wolves, are comprised of four students: house leader Yuri, pessimistic Hapi, confident Constance, and brawler Balthus.

According to an official article from Nintendo, players will receive fixed players for this side story and will be unable to recruit any additional students. Today, the official Fire Emblem Twitter confirmed that the playable students in Cindered Shadows will be Byleth, the three house leaders (Edelgard, Dimitri, and Claude), and Black Eagles student Linhardt, Blue Lions student Ashe, and Golden Deer student Hilda. All four of the Ashen Wolves will also be playable in this side story. Additionally, upon completing Cindered Shadows, the Ashen Wolves will also be available for recruitment as playable students in the main story.

To commemorate the occasion, the Twitter account also shared some “never before seen” artwork of the chosen students rendered by the game’s artist Chinatsu Kurahana.

In addition to confirming which students will be playable, Nintendo has also confirmed that the Cindered Shadows DLC can be accessed as a separate “Side Story” in the main menu of the game (which can be found in-between “Nintendo eShop” and “Copy”)

The side story will occur near the beginning of Part 1 in the game when everyone is getting used to life in the academy. However, when Byleth and their students see a mysterious figure heading towards the monastery’s basement, they soon find themselves in the unknown world of the Abyss, a refuge town where those who have been turned away by the “surface world” have found solace and peace.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses is currently available for the Nintendo Switch. The Cindered Shadows DLC will be released on February 12.
