Wipeout Omega Collection and Sniper Elite 4 are available to download for free this month, August 2019, on PS4 for those with a PlayStation Plus (PS Plus) subscription.
Wipeout Omega Collection was released in 2017, and bundles two or four (depending on how you count them) of the more recent games in the PlayStation-exclusive hover racing franchise. The game includes lightly updated versions of Wipeout 2048 and Wipeout: HD, which is itself a bundle of Wipeout Pure and Wipeout Pulse, so five titles for four games worth of content. Also, the Fury expansion content for Wipeout: HD comes included in the collection.
The Wipeout series is set apart from other games in the hover racing genre by including kart racer-style weapon pickups, punishing difficulty at higher race classes and a high-quality EDM soundtrack. The games in Wipeout Omega Collection are all good examples of the Wipeout formula.
Sniper Elite 4 is a third-person shooter, also released in 2017, and is probably best known for its x-ray kill cam mechanic like other games in the series. As the game’s title suggests, the action in Sniper Elite 4 focuses on long-range combat with players’ best strategy being usually to find a high perch to pick off Nazis one by one, rather than rushing into the fray. The plot of these games can best be described as “Indiana Jones as a sniper instead of an archaeologist.” The game takes place in a heavily-fictionalized Italy during World War 2 and revolves around thwarting the development of Nazi superweapons.
For those new to the PlayStation ecosystem, PS Plus is Sony’s online services subscription which allows PlayStation owners to access online play as well as offering discounts in the PlayStation Store and free game unlocks on a monthly rotation.
Subscribers to PS Plus can download Wipeout Omega Collection and Sniper Elite 4 from the PlayStation Store right now. Those without a subscription can still purchase the games for $19.99 for Wipeout Omega Collection and $59.99 for Sniper elite 4. Monthly subscription fees for PS Plus are $9.99 and a full year of the service is $59.99.
