Normal type Pokémon are well liked by fans because their only weaknesses are to Ghost and Fighting types. This makes them some of the most adaptable fighters in the Pokémon franchise. Over the years some have been retconned into other typings, but it remains one of the more common types of Pokémon.
Here are some examples of fans who’ve tapped into their creative abilities to show their appreciation for this often underrated Pokémon type. With some realistic portrayals, great digital graphics, and a few eerie depictions, here are some great pieces of fanart.
10 Persian
Persian has a place in many fans hearts as the pet of the ruthless Giovanni and for its notorious move Payday that helped so many players print money in their playthroughs. Having one as a pet is a bit of gamble however as they can be mean and will scratch their owners for seemingly no reason.
Joshua Dunlop does a fantastic job depicting how a Persian would look like in real-life as it slinks through the wild. They say if it locks eyes with anyone it immediately becomes hostile, which would make a meeting like this bad news.
9 Exploud
Exploud is an interesting Normal Pokémon in that it uses sound to fight. Through a number of powerful sound organs and a massive mouth it’s capable of emitting a cry so loud it can be heard six miles away and is known to trigger earthquakes.
Honestly if you’re out in the wild and you see an Exploud in the stance Sushan Yue has depicted in this artwork you better cover your ears and duck for cover. It wouldn’t be surprising if trainers of this Pokémon are known to have hearing problems.
8 Ditto
Ditto is one of the more interesting creatures in the franchise given that it can transform into anything. If facing a Pokémon it takes on that Pokémon’s attributes and abilities and particularly strong Ditto are capable of replicating humans. This power has terrifying potential given the number of Pokémon out there with apocalyptic powers, imagine if a group of Ditto stumbled across a Giratina or Mewtwo and started morphing.
This depiction of a Ditto transforming created by super_citron shows it morphing into a Charmander, whether it’s to stay warm or incinerate a threat is unclear.
7 Bouffalant
These hairy beasts are said to be strong enough to derail trains with their headbutts. The shaggy hair all over their bodies also acts as a thick armor to protect them from harm and increase the damage they deal when charging.
Sushan Yue’s simplistic painting shows a Bouffalant seemingly ready to charge. Even if you somehow managed to avoid the creature’s bulky mass, the horns that jut out on either side are wicked. Watching two Bouffalant headbutting has to be an amazing experience.
6 Snorlax
Here’s another eerily realistic depiction of a Pokémon by Joshua Dunlop, this time the mighty and incredibly lazy Snorlax. The beast can eat literally anything and its digestive system is so strong it can’t be poisoned by what it eats.
This makes it sound like it’s dangerous to be around when it’s hungry, but in reality it’s a very docile creature that sticks to food or food-ish items rather than attack Pokémon and people for nourishment. Good luck moving it if it’s in your way though and trying to keep one as a pet would be a nightmare when you have to feed it 900 pounds of food a day.
5 Porygon
Porygon is an interesting Pokémon in that it’s one of the few to be intentionally and artificially created by mankind. Scientists designed it to withstand the rigors of space, but so far haven’t managed to send it out on a voyage. They have managed to get it to break down into lines of code and explore cyberspace.
Jessica Wiedner shows a few Porygon exploring the depths of cyberspace, though for what purpose is unknown. It’s said to be impossible to replicate thanks to DRM protection, but anyone familiar with hacking and cyber pirates knows it’s just a matter of time.
4 Silvally
In response to the Ultra Beasts that threatened mankind Type: Null was created to combat them, and once its control mask is removed it becomes the powerful Silvally. Now it can change types with a little assistance from its trainer and is equipped to battle whatever dark entities come pouring in from other dimensions.
Virginie Juteau shows Silvally standing on a field of battle ready to fight some unseen foe. Given it’s design and purpose it’s likely to be an Ultra Beast and Silvally seems ready to engage.
3 Regigigas
As you can see in this artwork by Astero, Regigigas is massive. This towering Pokémon is said to have built other Pokémon, namely Regirock, Regice, and Registeel out of mountains. There’s even a legend that claims it dragged the continents around with mighty ropes.
Whether or not it was responsible for the separation of Pangea is unclear, but given it’s size and the ability to create new Pokémon like it the legend isn’t all that far fetched. How something like this went unseen by mankind is a mystery.
2 Slaking
You’d be forgiven for thinking Slaking is as cuddly and docile as Snorlax given their similar personalities and lazy lifestyles. Slakings are said to lounge underneath trees waiting for ripened fruit to drop near them so they can eat.
But in reality a Slaking is capable of becoming a hairy wrecking ball if sufficiently irritated. It turns out all that lounging has been building up pent-up energy it can release at the slightest provocation to devastating effect. Jamaal Raoof gives a taste of what angering these creatures must look like and it’s terrifying.
1 Arceus
Areceus is known in the Pokémon franchise as the being that created the universe and all life within it. Emerging from an egg of unknown origin it shaped the world and gave rise to all Pokémon and humans that dwelt upon it.
Rene Polumorfous show Arceus emerging into view in incredible glory. But what’s unsettling about this creature is that any talented and resourceful 10-year-old could find a way to capture the creator of all life and use it in battle.
