Kicking off all the way back in 1996, Pokémon became one of the biggest franchises in the video game industry and has stood as a staple for many children to enjoy throughout their childhood and beyond. Though a hit, the success of the games caught practically everyone off guard, as you couldn’t go anywhere in the late 90s and early 2000s without seeing some sort of toy, plushie or other game related piece of memorabilia on shelves. They were games that defined a lot of people’s childhood’s and was responsible for an abundance of childhood memories for a generation that is now all grown up.
But the series is still going strong, and while the games are as good as ever, the one’s that started it all were those of the first generation. The first generation games – while not perfect – paved the way for the Pokémon franchise and really turned it into a global phenomenon. The initial challenge of catching all 151 Pokémon has now grown into a gargantuan monster hunt across several games. And while they might not all stand up to par with some of those introduced after them, the original 151 are still fresh in many gamers minds and hearts. So what do you think?
