Niantic just announced that Pokémon GO is getting 23 new Pokémon from the Hoenn Region.
As per the Niantic website, Pokémon GO is set to receive 23 new Pokémon from Generation III, which includes Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald.
“Starting later today, 23 additional Pokémon originally discovered in the Hoenn region in the Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire video games will begin appearing in Pokémon GO for the very first time,” reads Niantic’s statement. “As you’re out adventuring with friends and family and exploring your local neighborhoods, be sure to share your favorite moments and photos using #PokemonGO on your social media channels.”
Along with the announcement, Niantic released an image of what Pokémon you can expect to find in the latest update. From there we can assume some of the new ‘mons to be found by also including their pre-evolutionary forms. The list includes:
Whismur
Loudred
Exploud
Aron
Lairon
Aggron
Numel
Camerupt
Trapinch
Vibrava
Flygon
Cacnea
Cacturne
Lunatone
Solrock
That leaves eight remaining Pokémon to fill out the full 23. The kind folks on Reddit’s The Silph Road have made a fairly educated guess as to what the remaining eight are, considering they eat, sleep, and breath Pokémon GO. According to them, the remaining eight are these bad boys and girls:
Nosepass
Anorth
Armaldo
Lileep
Cradily
Torkoal
Baltoy
Claydol
Those of you paying attention will note the general theme of the Pokémon released seem to be “desert” ‘mons, which includes an assortment of Fire, Ground, and Rock-types.
There’s also reports that Lunatone and Solrock are both region exclusive and roaming Pokémon, which means they will appear and disappear from your region but never appear in the same spot twice, very similar to how Seviper and Zangoose operate. There’s speculation that both Pokémon will appear according to the day/night cycle of any particular region, which would make sense given they’re the sun and the moon.
Others are saying they might only appear according to the seasons. We’ll just have to wait for more trainers to report captures as the new Pokémon were just released yesterday.
With the latest update, this leaves 27 non-Legendary Pokémon left from the Hoenn Region. Most of the remaining ‘mons are Flying or Bug types, so expect to see one more wave of additions with a distinctly flying theme.
