One of the benefits of Pokémon Home is that it allows new Pokémon that were previously unobtainable to be added to Sword & Shield, so long as the player can move them from other devices.
Pokémon Sword & Shield were leaked early and dataminers discovered the existence of Pokémon that couldn’t be accessed in the game, including fan favorites like the Bulbasaur line and Mewtwo. Fans quickly discovered how to hack these Pokémon into the game, as many people were interested in seeing them restored following the Dexit controversy.
Pokémon Home is now available to download and it allows fans to transfer these previously inaccessible Pokémon to the game through the older Pokémon titles. We now know the full list of Pokémon that can be transferred (via. Serebii) and they are - Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, Venusaur, Squirtle, Wartortle, Blastoise, Mewtwo, Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Cobalion, Terrakion, Virizion, Reshiram, Zekrom, Kyurem, Keldeo, Rowlet, Dartrix, Decidueye, Litten, Torrecat, Incineroar, Popplio, Brionne, Primarina, Cosmog, Cosmoem, Solgaleo, Lunala, Necrozma, Marshadow, Zeraora, Meltan, and Melmetal.
It’s also possible to trade Mew through the aid of the Poké Ball Plus accessory, so long as it hasn’t already been traded into one of the Let’s Go games.
Along with these Pokémon are Alolan forms of established generation one Pokémon, including - Raichu, Vulpix, Ninetales. Diglett, Dugtrio, Meowth, and Persian.
Also eligible are the non-Galarian base forms of Ponyta, Rapidash, Farfetch’d, Weezing, Corsola, Zigzagoon, Linoone, Darumaka, Darmanitan, and Stunfisk. There are also seven different variants of cap-wearing Pikachu.
The National Dex controversy took over the discourse in the lead-up to Pokémon Sword & Shield’s release. It’s possible that Game Freak had wanted to ration the new Pokémon behind a paywall and the response convinced the company to change its mind. Some of the most beloved Pokémon in the series are now available in the Galar region, so long as people are able to trade them through the Let’s Go games or through Pokémon Bank/Transporter with the Nintendo 3DS games.
Pokémon Home is available to download now.
