Pokémon can be categorized and grouped in a variety of different ways that is only limited by the imagination. They can be sorted by Type, by Egg Group, by Generation, by Ability, or what moves they can learn. But perhaps there’s one category that is consistently updated every generation but often ignored, and this category would be flower Pokémon.

Whether growing cotton upon their head or a beautiful blossom, flower Pokémon are more than just their looks; these flowers can kill, too. This article will attempt to arrange a beautiful bouquet of the strongest flower Pokémon out there, which is sure to impress any trainer.

10 Lilligant

Generation V has a sizable arrangement of plant-based Pokémon, but none more elegant than Lilligant. Evolving from Petilil when exposed to a Sun Stone, Lilligant nowadays ranks much higher in aesthetics than it does in actual power, but it has good stats going for it (a base stat total of 480) and the movepool to be a setup sweeper.

Quiver Dance gives Lilligant some real value on the battlefield, but it ranks lower on the list due to the many threats it faces in current day competitive play. Having Pokémon that can properly cover Lilligant will enable it to unleash havoc on its opponents.

9 Bellossom

Pity the fool who underestimates Bellossom’s battle power. This Pokémon has access to both Quiver Dance and Strength Sap, which no other Pokémon does. Strength Sap, a move that can be learned by 12 Pokémon in total, will restore Bellossom’s HP by its opponent’s Attack stat, while also lowering said opponent’s Attack by one stage. Quiver Dance will raise Bellossom’s Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed by one stage. Both moves are valuable and allow Bellossom to be used in several different teams and strategies.

Unfortunately, Bellossom has its fair share of weaknesses, being a pure Grass-type Pokémon, and possessing average stats before Quiver Dancing and other stat-boosting moves. Bellossom runs the risk of being knocked out before getting any boosts set up, but can achieve great things if given the right opportunity.

8 Lurantis

Lurantis is quite an interesting Pokémon, but not only because of its unique design (most likely based-off an Orchid Mantis and Orchid flower combined). It is able to take advantage of not only its reasonable Defense stats, but also its access to moves such as Synthesis, Aromatherapy, and Defog. Its ability, Contrary, will reverse any stat changes done to the Pokémon, meaning an opponent attempting to lower Lurantis’ Defense would increase its Defense instead.

Defog, often considered a useless HM Move from Generation IV, actually becomes Lurantis’ greatest strength, clearing entry hazards such as Spikes. This is a Mantis you’ll be praying to have around!

7 Eldegoss

One of the exciting aspects of a new Pokémon generation is seeing what flower Pokémon fans will be gifted with next, and Eldegoss is a pleasant gift indeed. This Cotton Bloom Pokémon ranks well in battle prowess and adorableness, the two key elements in a trainer’s decision when crafting their team.

Eldegoss doesn’t have the best HP, but it makes up for it with a moveset designed for support. Moves like Sleep Powder, Aromatherapy, Rapid Spin, and Synthesis are true benefits of being a Grass-type Pokémon, and Eldegoss has them all for the taking. If you decide to switch Eldegoss out, Regenerator will heal 1/3 of its maximum HP, another reason to love this little cotton ball.

6 Roserade

Generation IV gave Roselia the proper evolutionary line it always deserved, with a baby Pokémon in Budew, and a superior evolution in the form of Roserade. Clocking in with a base stat total of 505, Roselia’s sharp thorns explain why its one of the best Spikes users in its league. It also has access to three different abilities: Technician, Natural Cure, and Poison Point.

Roserade can also take out strong Water-types with Leaf Storm (taking advantage of STAB) while covering other threats with its wide movepool. This rose definitely has its thorns, so watch out!

5 Tsareena

Tsareena is most likely based on the mangosteen, a type of tropical tree with edible fruit, but also a Tsarina, a Russian female monarch. Besides being the mascot for many beauty parlors in the Alolan region, Tsareena is a monarch on the battlefield as well.

Though it learns Stomp in order to evolve, moves like Rapid Spin and Power Whip are what make it a truly dangerous opponent. The ability Queenly Majesty makes it the perfect candidate for Double Battles, as it prevents priority moves from being used on allies.

4 Venusaur

One of the most beloved Grass-types in the Pokémon franchise, Venusaur is more than just a nostalgic choice for trainers. The fully blossomed Seed Pokémon is still a viable competitive Pokémon even in Generation VII, surviving the test of time. Previous games such as Pokémon X & Y can also take advantage of its Mega Evolution, giving it a considerable boost to its Defenses.

Venusaur does its best in the sun, where its Speed is doubled with the ability Chlorophyll. The move Growth will also increase its Attack and Special Attack by a whopping 2 stages. Make sure this plant gets some sunshine!

3 Shaymin (Land Forme)

Considered to be one of the best grass-type Pokémon out there, Shaymin has a base stat total of 600, which is to be expected of a legendary. In its Land Forme, Shaymin’s stats are all an even 100, and it has the ability Natural Cure, a sensible choice for a nature deity.

Unfortunately, some legendaries have signature moves that fall flat, but Shaymin’s signature move, Seed Flare, is the crown jewel of its movepool, with 120 base bower and a 40% chance to lower the opponent’s Special Defense by two stages. It can also heal using both Synthesis and Rest, making it that much more durable.

2 Florges

Florges’ design is a sight to behold, unlike some other grass-type Pokémon. With a base stat total of 552 and a variety of colors to choose from, Florges will clean house on the battlefield and look gorgeous while doing it.

Arguably the best Fairy-type in its league, it has an incredible 154 Base Special Defense and access to Synthesis and Wish if its HP gets low. Wish can also heal Florges’ teammates, making it a great Medic for the team. if that wasn’t enough, Aromatherapy will cure every status condition on the team, leaving opponents frustrated and scrambling.

1 Shaymin (Sky Forme)

If Land Forme Shaymin wasn’t powerful enough, then Sky Forme Shaymin certainly fits the bill. Its 600 base stat total is reorganized to give major boosts in both its Special Attack and Speed, while still maintaining good HP and Attack.

While still taking advantage of its signature move, Seed Flare, Shaymin also benefits from having Air Slash for STAB, as well as Earth Power to knock out many other legendaries it encounters. As a final gambit, Healing Wish will knock out Shaymin and fully heal the next teammate on the battlefield. To acknowledge its power and its sacrifice, Shaymin Sky Forme is the best of the strongest flower Pokémon.
