PvP and The GO Battle League

The biggest part of Pokemon GO for many people is the GO Battle League. This is where the ultimate Trainers meet to duke it out and go head to head with their teams.

Alongside the GBL, there are more casual battles against friends, too. Additionally, there are battles against the team leaders — Blanche, Candela, and Spark — and Team GO Rocket. Though these battles aren’t against real people, they’re typically included under the PvP umbrella in Pokemon GO.
