The world of Pokemon is home to pocket monsters of various colors, shapes, and sizes. A cool aspect of the franchise is that each creature has a rare form of itself that’s a different color palette, sometimes looking cooler or cuter than its typical form.
Some of these creatures have a shiny form that inverts their normal color, while others change to one that doesn’t seem related in a way that makes sense. Let’s take a look at the 15 coolest shiny Pokemon that are now sporting a blue color and see which ones make being blue the best.
Updated November 19th, 2020 by Hayley Mullen: Many of us are feeling blue due to the world’s current state, but it’s nice to remember that good things can also come in blue! We’ve updated our list of the coolest blue shiny Pokemon out there in order to raise those spirits (and maybe even encourage some on-the-fence shiny hunters to take the plunge.)
15 Ditto
Ditto is the pink little pile of goo that’s most known for being a Pokemon breeder’s dream come true. It allows the breeders to reproduce offspring without worrying about finding a mate thanks to Ditto being able to transform into any other creature.
Considering its design is mostly just a face on a pink pile of goo, it turning blue isn’t too extraordinary, but blue goo is pretty appealing to look at. Things that are colored pink can sometimes come across as offputting, whereas Ditto’s shiny form being blue makes it feel more like a scientific experiment.
14 Miltank
With Miltank’s shiny form it not only sports a coat of blue instead of pink, but the black-colored head accents and ears also turn to a darker brown color. These creatures are known for producing milk that’s quite healthy and provides solid benefits when ingested.
It’s unclear whether or not the milk it makes tastes different or comes out a different color if the Miltank happens to be a shiny form. You would assume that outer physical traits wouldn’t change the physiology inside the animal, but it’s anyone’s guess if shiny forms have other benefits or only aesthetic differences.
13 Politoed
In the wild, frogs are able to avoid being eaten by sporting bright and unnatural colors in order to warn predators that eating it would be a poisonous and deadly mistake. Johto’s Politoed seems to be a nod to the blue poison dart frog, found in southern Suriname.
Its blue and pink combination sets it apart majorly from its non-shiny form, as well as matching its cute pink cheeks. Theoretically, shiny Politoed would have an extra layer of protection in the wild, if prey and predators function similarly in the Pokemon world as they do in reality.
12 Litwick
The hottest, most dangerous kind of flame is blue, which is what makes this Fire and Ghost-type Pokemon so cool…or hot. Blue flames are often at a temperature between 2600-3000 degrees Fahrenheit, which is hot enough to turn many metals into liquid.
This makes shiny Litwick an absolute weapon of destruction, able to destroy cars and buildings with its hot flame. This is probably why shiny Chandelure is orange; giving a fully-evolved Pokemon such unchecked power would be dangerous for the world.
11 Nidoking
The best thing about Nidoking’s shiny form is also its worst. If it existed in a vacuum, the idea of a purple-pink thing now being blue would be dope, but its female counterpart, Nidoqueen, sports blue armor, so at the end of the day the shiny form of Nidoking looks like a Nidoqueen.
The weirdest part about the whole thing is that the shiny form of Nidoqueen isn’t purple-pink like you’d assume, but rather an olive green. If you cared that much though you could have a blue Nidoking and Nidoqueen if your heart desired.
10 Mew
This entry seems a bit blasphemous as Mew is one of the most iconic and recognizable Pokemon to ever exist. People know it as the small pink flying cat-like rodent that’s said to hibernate under suspiciously parked pickup trucks.
Mew having a blue shiny form is a neat novelty, but it’s not like that form is something tangible that trainers can strive for. Mew is one of the rarest Pokemon to obtain, and because it is a legendary creature you can’t simply breed it in hopes of hatching the shiny version of it. Worrying about Mew’s color is a fruitless activity, however, as owning even a non-shiny one is so rare.
9 Corsola
Corsola is a Pokemon based on coral, underwater invertebrates who resemble plants. They come in a variety of colors, but most searches will return a myriad of warmer-toned coral ranging from reds to pinks to yellows.
The shiny version of Corsola may seem like fiction because people are rarely exposed to blue coral, but it does exist and is as vibrant as you’d assume it’d be. You would think that something being blue underwater would be underwhelming, but Corsola likely sticks out as a vibrantly beautiful creature if it’s anything like its real-life counterpart.
8 Abomasnow
Here’s the thing, Abomasnow’s original design is great for what it is. As an ice and grass dual-type, its design and coloring do a great job at communicated that as it appears to be a snow yeti with hints of green.
The shiny version of Abomasnow is worse when it comes to context as it replaces the green with blue, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t fit. It could lead to confusion though as uninformed trainers may assume that it’s either just an ice-type or at most shares a dual-typing with water. A nice compromise could have been a teal-like color instead of blue for the shiny form.
7 Psyduck
Psyduck is a Pokemon that has seemingly always been at odds with itself in several ways. Despite appearing as a bright yellow duck, it’s often seen experiencing sadness and confusion in addition to suffering from headaches. It also evolves into a blue duck-like creature that’s much more aggressive-looking.
Though its shiny form doesn’t make the docile dunce look more intimidating, it at least turns it into a shade of blue that makes its evolution a little more acceptable. Now if they could only give it a secondary typing of psychic.
6 Venomoth
Venomoth is a Pokemon that’s often forgotten about and overlooked in favor of Butterfree and other bug-type creatures. It’s base color and design aren’t bad, but the purples and pinks don’t set it apart. Its shiny form, on the other hand, doubles down on embracing the color blue and it works.
The vibrancy of the blue makes it stand out and has Venomoth feeling more like an ethereal and spiritual creature and less like a moth you found behind your couch. This color palette is also smart since they didn’t need to change its eye color much, either.
5 Sylveon
Sylveon’s shiny form is so good because it simply inverts the colors it displays and they both look so adorable. Instead of being colored mostly pink with accents of blue, the shiny form takes on a mostly blue look with accents of pink.
Despite Sylveon being considered a very feminine Pokemon, it seems that the base and shiny forms are his and hers forms in some aspects. Sometimes the best shiny forms are the ones that don’t look to change things up entirely, but rather go for subtle changes that make it still feel like the same Pokemon.
4 Medicham
This balanced and tough fighter is one of Hoenn’s several Fighting-type Pokemon, though it gets the majority of its strength (and notoriety) from its Psychic-type powers. Medicham uses the power of meditation to gain psychokinetic powers and sense the aura and movements of its opponent before they move a muscle.
Such an intense Pokemon can only be made cooler through the color blue, which suits Medicham quite well. A soft and unobtrusive shade fits perfectly with the calm and exacting presence Medicham exudes on the battlefield.
3 Lycanroc
Lycanroc is undoubtedly a cool Pokemon, with its multiple forms and secrets to evolving that are based on not only the time of day but also its own ability. Midnight Lycanroc is a fitting shade of midnight blue, making it seem even more like a wolf of the night. Dusk Lycanroc is similar, though the shade contrasted with its green eyes gives it a more noble look and feel.
Finally, Midday Lycanroc takes a lighter shade of blue, akin to the sky on a partially sunny day in Autumn. It’s undeniable that all of them rock the color blue.
2 Bisharp
This noble sword Pokemon has a shiny form that echoes the age-old red versus blue battle known to so many lovers of games. Normally, Bisharp and its pre-evolved form, Pawniard, sport a bold red color, similar to that of a checkerboard, but they both look stunning in the royal blue shade of their shiny form.
Solid, bold colors work especially well for Pokemon based on chess pieces such as pawns and bishops, as they are made to be unmistakable about whose side they fight for and represent.
1 Tyrantrum
What’s cooler than a giant red T-rex inspired Pokemon with a crown? A blue version of that. The shiny form of Tyrantrum is neat as the rich blue color is a neat color for a t-rex that fans of dinosaurs haven’t experienced all that often.
Its crown trades in the golden hue of the base form for grey, and though it fits well, you can’t help but imagine what it would look like if they kept the gold. Tyrantrum’s shiny form isn’t necessarily better than the base color, but it’s not worse either. They’re both worth owning and celebrating in their own right.
