People flock to streaming platforms like Twitch to see players pull off unlikely or incredible things, from feats of raw skill to beating preposterously high odds. Fans of Twitch streamer Pestily got a full dose of the former in one of his recent streams of Escape from Tarkov when he seemed to slip into a trance of extremely accurate destruction.
Pestily is known as one of the best Escape from Tarkov streamers out there at the moment, streaming on Twitch and putting out highlights on his YouTube channel. The game is very exacting and realistic in its war simulation, and it is far more rare to see someone pull off an astounding feat than it is to see them screw up in hilarious fashion or mess up something basic.
An astounding feat is exactly what Pestily pulled off however, as he slipped into what watchers described as “John Wick mode.” The scene that played out on the stream is indeed comparable to the infamous night club sequence from the first John Wick movie, where the title character slaughters his way through several opponents using nothing but a handgun and a stone cold expression. Pestily similarly wears a look of extreme concentration as he weaves through tight spaces using nothing but a handgun, and occasionally a knife, to take out players wielding shotguns and assault rifles. The whole sequence only lasts a few minutes, but it’s a tense couple of minutes that displays what real dedication to the game can produce.
Pestily’s dedication did not extend to one of the key aspects of Escape from Tarkov: looting fallen opponents. He barely grabbed anything from his fallen foes, presumably because any further guns would have only slowed him down and been superfluous in the long run anyway. With gameplay like this on display, it’s hardly a shock that Escape from Tarkov has attracted huge names in streaming, including Dr. Disrespect.
That said, the future of Escape from Tarkov as a major attraction on Twitch is currently under question, as the game’s history as a major attraction on the platform is rather short. Released two years ago, Escape from Tarkov only saw its popularity rise in the past week. This has largely been attributed to a Twitch promotion that saw players receiving free loot for watching streams of Escape from Tarkov, and the promotion has since ended.
While the initial popularity rise can probably be laid at the feet of the promotion, there is still reason to believe that the game will keep a substantial fanbase. With skills like Pestily’s on display and a development that has refined the game over two years, there may soon be many new players getting started in Escape from Tarkov.
