Sony has announced on its NA PlayStation Blog that the PS VR is getting a new bundle, which effectively reduces the price of entry to the virtual reality experience.

Starting from September 1, Sony will release a new bundle for the PS VR with a PlayStation Camera for $399 USD ($499 CAD). Basically this adds the camera to the headset for nothing. Sony also confirmed that the camera inclusion will be a part of the standard PS VR bundle going forward.

There’s also a deal for the PS VR Worlds bundle, this comes with the PS VR headset, PS Camera, two PlayStation Move controllers and a copy of PS VR Worlds, all for the lovely price of $449.

The news of this bundle is good for US and Canadian gamers who may have been waiting to jump into the likes of Superhot VR, Farpoint and Resident Evil 7, or even for those who hanker after a girlfriend they can legally keep in a box. The VR system continues to evolve and, with the upcoming firmware update 5.0, sees the addition of virtual surround (in 5.1 and 7.1 channels) in the Cinematic Mode, for maximum immersion.

This latest move from Sony follows on from similar price cuts for the HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift in recent weeks. Maybe VR will become cheap enough for ordinary consumers sooner rather than later?

The PS VR bundles will come out on September 1 in North America and Canada. Currently there’s no word on whether this deal is coming to the EU, but if this bundle is successful we might see as similar scheme arriving here. It would be nice to see a more compelling reason for consumers to consider giving VR a go.
