PS4 system sales reached 22.3 million units worldwide as as of March 31, up from the 20.2m units reported at the beginning of March.

Sony shifted a total of 14.8 million PS4 units across the financial year which ended March 31, 2015, and stated in its financials that it expects to sell 16 million units in the current financial year.

Whilst PS4 is booming, it looks like PS3 is falling fast. 7.1 million PS3 systems were sold in FY13, whilst only 3.1 million PS3 consoles were sold during FY14.

Sony’s gaming division reported revenues of $11.5bn (£7.4bn), an increase of one third year-on-year.

Elsewhere Microsoft remains very secretive over the lifetime sales of Xbox One.
