London-based games company BeefJack has revealed Iron Fish, a ‘psychological deep-sea thriller’ due out on PC later this year.
Developed in partnership with indie creator Dean Edwards, Iron Fish is described by BeefJack as an ‘undersea chiller’ that tasks players with surviving the dangers of the ocean while uncovering mysteries hidden deep beneath the ocean waves.
“We have been eagerly waiting for the right time to show Iron Fish,” said Edwards. “This project combines my passion for games and my life-long love of unusual horror. After being captivated by documentaries like The Blue Planet and Natural World, I was really interested to explore the terrifying but reverent quality that the deep can convey.”
The developer says that Iron Fish’s story “blurs the boundaries between science and the supernatural” as players take on the role of Cerys, a British Naval investigator sent on a mission 11km below the ocean’s surface where she’ll encounter dangerous deep sea creatures while navigating the harsh underwater environment.
“Iron Fish is one of the most exciting games BeefJack has ever worked on,” said producer Lottie Bevan. “It’s exciting for lots of reasons: the artistic possibilities of Unreal Engine 4, the primal fear of descending into a world evolved entirely to kill you, the magic round the edges of science, and the game’s weird and wonderful inhabitants.”
