id Software and Pulse Interactive have announced that they are bringing Quake to a new generation of 3D enabled mobile handsets.
“QUAKE Mobile takes all of the action, game play, and atmosphere of the groundbreaking original and puts it right in the palm of your hands,” said Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id Software. “QUAKE pushes the envelope of today’s mobile handsets, and offers gamers a fun and addictive on-the-go entertainment experience. We’re already looking forward to the first mobile deathmatch.”
“Forget miniature golf and puzzle games, QUAKE is going to take mobile gaming to a whole new level,” said Paul Trowe, president, Pulse Interactive. “QUAKE will not only satisfy hardcore players, but also create a whole new generation of fans around the world.”
The first mobiles to support Quake should be released this July, with the game being embedded in certain Korean made handsets. How such an advanced (for a mobile) FPS will work on a mobile phone remains to be seen, but this is a sign that gaming on phones is progressing well.
