New info has leaked on Rockstar’s upcoming Red Dead Redemption 2.

The new info comes by way of Trusted Reviews, who say that received a confidential memo from a Rockstar insider last August. They decided not to publish it because it was completely unsubstantiated and seemed to contradict some info available at the time. Now with Rockstar’s recent reveal of screenshots at a concrete release date, they believe their info is genuine.

First off, the main character of the story is not going to be Jack Marston, son of John Marston, as originally reported. Instead, we’ll have Arthur Morgan, an outlaw somehow affiliated with the Van der Linde gang, along with Dutch Van Der Linde, leader of Dutch’s Gang.

You can see the screenshots below in comparison to the pictures that Trusted Reviews received in their memo. The similarities are too obvious to ignore.

This could mean that the campaign will switch between the two main characters, similar to how GTAV switched between its trio of protagonists.

The biggest news comes from RDR2’s expected online gameplay modes, which will include “Battle Royale”, “Money Grub”, and “Revive and Survive.”

Battle Royale is expected to play out the same as PUBG or Fortnite, with 100 a player free-for-all dropped in a slowly constricting area. Money Grub will be team-based, with two teams trying to steal cash from a central location. The team with the most money at the end wins. Revive and Survive will be team elimination with a time limit to revive downed players.

RDR2’s open world aspects will take a large page from GTAV with dynamic NPCs that arrive in the morning and head home at night. Players are free to roam the open world and are given constant rewards for doing various tasks, such as taking out a bandit from over 100 meters or successfully covering a certain amount of terrain in your travels.

Vehicles will include minecarts, handcarts and horse-drawn carriages, available in armored and faster ones. Fishing, hunting, and free events will happen frequently, such as deathmatches, gold-mining, fishing, herding, an assortment of weapon challenges, and spontaneous treasure hunts

Rockstar also plans on releasing a phone app at the same time that will have some functionality in game, as well as feature a poker-like minigame.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is set to release this October.
