Red Dead Redemption may have cost $100,000,000 to develop. Yeah, I know what you’re thinking: “That is one hell of a lot of zeros”, but before we get all up in arms or completely set in a state of awe, let’s get serious here. There is wide-spread speculation going on whether this rumor is true or false, and they both have some good points. I think what breaks the code on this for me is that anywhere you look you’ll find “there are rumors of spending this much” or “they are said to have spent that much”, and that just is not solid proof.

The Daily Mail is one of the sources listed for this “rumor”, and even the New York Times has added their two cents, reporting that the cost was between 80 and 100 million dollars. I mean, whereas some people may not believe that this is quite accurate, (ahem) it is entirely plausible. The industry executives haven’t set a solid number, but $100 million was in the range that they guessed at, though it was the peak.

Rockstar Games did say that this was one of their most ambitious projects to date, and not only that, but they first announced this at the 2005 E3 Convention. So, over a span of a grueling 5 year production of a game, it shouldn’t be all too hard to use up lets say – a hundred million dollars?

So, in the end, the choice is yours to believe whatever it is you feel like believing really, is it a truth or a falsity, did Red Dead Redemption really cost $100 million to make? Well, tell as what you think.
