Rockstar Games have announced the release date for the hotly anticipated sequel to Red Dead Redemption. Mark your calendars: October 26th, 2018. That’s the date that Red Dead Redemption 2 will hit both brick and online stores.
The company most famous for the Grand Theft Auto series of gritty open-world games made the announcement on their website last week, writing, “We are excited to announce that Red Dead Redemption 2 will be released on October 26th, 2018. We apologize to everyone disappointed by this delay. While we had hoped to have the game out sooner, we require a little extra time for polish.”
Red Dead Redemption 2 was initially slated to be released in time for the 2017 Holiday season but was delayed to the Spring of 2018 in May of last year. With Spring just around the corner, Rockstar again delayed to later in 2018 but gave it a hard release date to satisfy fans.
“We sincerely thank you for your patience and hope that when you get to play the game, you will agree the wait will have been worth it,” Rockstar went on to write. “In the meantime, please check out these screenshots from the game. We look forward to sharing a lot more information with you in the coming weeks.”
The screenshots seem to feature a truly gorgeous set of views of plains living in the American West, along with several action shots from the cutscenes.
According to rumors that have been around since last year, the plot of Red Dead Redemption 2 will center around Jack Marston, son of John Marston, the original protagonist of the first game. The story of John will be further fleshed out with flashback scenes that feature John’s life and provide clues to his past as Jack tries to solve a mystery about his deceased father.
Along with the wild shootouts that you’ve come to know and love from the first Red Dead Redemption, the sequel is to bring a plethora of activities including fishing, hunting, horse racing, gambling, and of course, bounty hunting. There will also be less-than-legal activities like bank robbing, saloon robbing, and train robbing.
Rockstar doesn’t delay things lightly, but when they do it’s usually worth the wait. We’ll just have to wait until October to see if it was worth the wait again this time.
