Rockstar Games is putting a lot of stock into the success of its upcoming open-world Western game Red Dead Redemption, so much that they are calling it their “most ambitious game yet,” more so than the massively huge Grand Theft Auto 4. It’s no surprise really, especially considering that it’s garnering good impressions from early peeks, including one of our own.
Rockstar will be enacting their first in-movie ad campaign, as well as providing television viewers with plenty of spots to watch during commercial breaks. Rockstar general manager, Neil Stephen had quite a lot to say regarding the ad campaign:
I don’t think there’s a game release I’ve been looking forward to more than this title, except maybe Splinter Cell: Conviction, but from everything I’ve seen from the developer diaries and screenshots, Red Dead Redemption most certainly looks like it’s ambitious, and rightfully so. Rockstar is trying to deliver the epitome of the Western experience to gamers and it doesn’t look like they’re trying to skimp on detail or immersion. With a huge world to explore and do play around in, I’m sure gamers who pick up Redemption will have a hard time removing it from their consoles once it comes out.
“This is our most ambitious game to date and our biggest UK release this year. We are spending a larger proportion of our TV budget pre-launch than we ever have before to ensure Red Dead Redemption is established as a massive triple-A title.
For the first time as a company, we will be running an on-screen cinema advertising campaign. We think the cinematic nature of the game makes it a perfect fit for cinema and we will be executing a nationwide ad campaign targeting the audiences of Robin Hood, Iron Man 2 and Prince of Persia.
The game has garnered an incredibly positive reception from the gaming and lifestyle press with many outlets placing Red Dead Redemption as a possible game of the year contender. In terms of sales projections, we are aiming high and as such are focusing more attention on retail channels than ever before.
Once the game is released we expect that word of mouth and our massive launch media campaign will propel the game to excellent sales. This leaves us with very high expectations for what we think is our next blockbuster gaming franchise.”
Red Dead Redemption will let you relive all of your “Deadwood” fantasies May 18, 2010.
