Rejoice, indeed. It seems the guys over at EA have dropped some juicy tidbits in a company earnings call by saying that there will be something “far-reaching” for Mass Effect in Q4 of fiscal 2010 (which translates to early 2011, don’t ask me why).

What the heat-sink? Now, this is obviously open to interpretation, as they didn’t go into anything specific. It could be anything from another iPhone game, to a full expansion for Mass Effect 2, or even a large chunk of DLC. I will go on record here and guess that it’s not Mass Effect 3. Unless it is, in which case I would simultaneously curse BioWare for their disregard for my personal life and worship their deification with an N7 alter in my closet.

I finally finished Mass Effect 2 last night. And though Rob made some good points in GameRant’s Mass Effect 2 review, I don’t really agree with much of it. This game blew my mind, and I think a lot of things people are criticizing it for actually helped the game in its overall narrative. Mass Effect wasn’t a perfect game, and neither was Mass Effect 2, but taken together (and if the third installment lives up to their precedent), I think this could ultimately be the greatest franchise in video game history. How’s that for a claim?

So, I am excited to see what BioWare will roll out early next year. Since that’s not really a long time at all in the gaming industry, I think we can expect some sort of reveal by the end of this summer. I am secretly hoping for Mass Effect 3, though I think an expansion or spin-off would be more likely. However, the expansion for Dragon Age: Origins was announced fairly quickly after the release of the game and will be coming out only six months after. What does that mean for Mass Effect? That given that trend, it seems to be a little late for an expansion.

In any case, I am ready for as much Mass Effect as BioWare is willing to throw at me. Unless it’s an iPhone game. That would just be mean.

Mass Effect 2 is currently out for PC and Xbox 360.
