Ever since the release of the Resident Evil 2 remake at the beginning of last year, fans have been creating wonderful character swap mods that are both humorous and horrifying. These Resident Evil 2 remake mod have previously replaced Mr. X with the likes of It’s Pennywise and Thomas the Tank Engine, and now a brand new mod is giving players the chance to bring The Witcher’s Ciri to the zombie-infested Raccoon City.
More specifically, this new Resident Evil 2 remake mod replaces Claire’s character model with Ciri’s, and the effect is quite striking. Indeed, it is not every day that Witcher fans can see the Lion Cub of Cintra gun down flaming zombies or use a flashlight to illuminate her path, and this new mod gives them the opportunity to do so. Additionally, the mod transforms the game’s combat knives into Ciri’s Zireael, which is a nice touch that many players are certain to appreciate.
Created by Wiwilz, this RE2 remake mod can be downloaded from Nexus Mods, and it is indicated that players will need fluffyquack’s mod manager to get it working. While this will already be clear to some fans, it is worth mentioning that installing this mod is only possible for those playing the Resident Evil 2 remake on PC, and PS4 and Xbox One owners will thus need to stick to the critically-acclaimed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt if they wish to play as Ciri.
It is also worth noting that this mod does not include any facial animations for Ciri, which some players may find slightly disappointing. While the mod’s creator does indicate that they are working on adding these types of animations, they state that “rigging the head mesh” is a time-consuming endeavor, and they cannot promise that the animations will ever be implemented.
With the release of Netflix’s The Witcher series at the end of 2019, the interest surrounding this legendary fantasy franchise certainly reached a high point, and thus this mod could not come at a better time. Furthermore, Ciri’s proclivity for traveling to other realms makes her a great character to bring into different series, and perhaps mods will give her the chance to visit even more game worlds in the future.
Resident Evil 2 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
