There are plenty of gimmick Twitter accounts out there that purport to be those of fictional people or characters from different properties. The most recent example of this is Animal Crossing real estate mogul and maligned businessman Tom Nook, who has been found to be the face of the franchise’s Twitter account.

Indeed, the official Animal Crossing Twitter account is now under control by the fictional Tom Nook - having yanked the reins from Isabelle. The grifting raccoon uses the Twitter account to spread messages about all things Animal Crossing, including preview-related posts on Animal Crossing: New Horizons and regular updates on the mobile game Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp.

Under Nook, the Twitter account also retweets Nintendo’s Animal Crossing-related tweets. Some of the more recent tweets from Nook can be seen below. Some are particularly Nook-like.

The above video from Nook shows the streamlined decorating process, as opposed to what came before, which was a bit more restrictive and less user-friendly. Before, players had to move furniture themselves with their in-game characters.

The above tweet is straightforward but adheres strongly to Nook’s regular dialect, with the use of “hm?” at the end of the second tweet. Obviously, this tweet is a PSA for the Nintendo Direct for Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

All in all, this Twitter account is hilarious to follow as per the fact that it’s a hybrid account. Partially an official account for the Animal Crossing franchise and partially a gimmick Twitter account for the despised Tom Nook character, it may actually be worth a follow given he didn’t distress you too much in interactions within the series.

As noted in one of the tweets above, the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Nintendo Direct took place today. Many things were learned from the presentation. This includes the fact that New Horizons’ starting location will be somewhat barren compared to previous iterations’ settings. Further, there are also more landscaping options like adjusting cliffs, and the in-game menu will be reminiscent of a smartphone. In a way, this recalls the menu system of Grand Theft Auto V, Saints Row: The Third, or a number of current-gen games.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be releasing on the Nintendo Switch on March 20, 2020.
